"Tex Murphy - Project Fedora" is now live on Kickstarter.

Maybe the term DLC shouldn't have been used. However I am all for extra content that will be released months after the game has been released. In principle it is a great idea. In truth it is also abused by publishers, to maximize their profits, but that doesn't mean it is automatically a bad thing. I definitely trust Chris and Aaron and they will probably address the issue and put a rest to the complaints.

Fantastic! Took a little nap and BAM!
Thanks redcat!
Only adding to the pile everyone else chipped in! I was just waiting for a little moment I could remember. :-)

Yeah, this DLC stuff makes no sense to me. I'm guessing they were trying to make the rewards chock full of goodies. I think they came up with some great incentives! (Although, I do think it was a little unusual to put the novels that high up.) Regardless, I hope I can read them on my Kindle. And don't look a gift horse in the mouth as they say...

I put my pledge in...

I secretly wondered if Tex wouldnt get off the ground on this but it appears I was wrong. 100K so far and we still have a long way to go.
@noptaka: I personally don't mind the concept of having bonus content but I do think if it was placed differently in the tiers it'd mean more cash for them. Bonus content would fit much better at a lower tier. This would be a comfortable jump level for those who get the game but want a bit more. But at the moment they would have to jump another $135 if they wanted some bonus content. If it was placed in a lower slot it'd also possibly mean more jumps to the $100 boxed copy tier, as they'd be getting the whole game including the extra bells. At the moment I think they were intending it to be a gift for high donations, of course solely with good intent. But even those who are donating large amounts don't feel that it should necessarily fit there and are agreeing it'd work out much better for all priced differently. I do beleive donations will jump up even quicker (which given the current fantastic pace would be glorious!) once its made a more accessible reward or altered in some other way that they see fit based on the feedback they've gotten so far.

Since I'm already at the 250$ level I guess I didn't really think things from a 15$ backer's perspective regarding the DLC. 135$ is quite a jump. I'm sure things will be cleared up, maybe the DLC also added at a lower level, but giving the 150$ backers and above access to it sooner than others? I however don't think this needs this kind of backslash with people saying "I'm only gonna pledge 1$ because I don't like DLC". People are too hasty in judgement. I've seen it happen in all the major Kickstarters.
Hey everyone - how exciting is this?!

Just wanted everyone to know that we've had some spirited conversations whether or not to offer the DLC (even prior to the Kickstarter launch) and it's about to become a moot point. Chris and I will be making an announcement later today that, due to the negative perception of this reward, we'll be removing it from the list and replacing it with another prize. Everyone who buys the game will get the exact same version. We may do DLC later, after the game releases, but we'll decide that later. And, if we do it, it will be made available to everyone equally.

I hope this clears everything up about this very sticky and sensitive issue. :D

Thanks to everyone for your donations and support! Chris and I are thrilled and more excited than ever to make an awesome game for you guys.

Yeesh, I go to bed (I work night shift) and wake up to find it's already over 100k. I gotta say I'd glad to see it. The one thing I was most worried about this game was that it wouldn't get funded. Maybe it was just me trying to protect myself after holding out hope all these years but at this point I can't see it not getting funded. Sure it's going to slow down but I can't imagine a scenario where the game doesn't get the 450k now. I'm personally hoping it at least breaks the million mark.

It's also really awesome to go to the kickstarter games page and see Project Fedora as an editors pick, and Jane Jensen's and the Two guys from Andromeda's kickstarters all there together...It's getting me all nostalgic. Sierra, Tex Murphy... all that classic talent finally making a comeback.

What I find most interesting is, it's gotten here without much (Any?) news reports about the start of the campaign, Giant Bomb, Joystiq, Kotaku... they all ran stories about it when it was announced and have yet to notice (or just yet to report on it, maybe they're waiting for a lull on the diablo news). Has anyone out there seen any articles on this Kickstarter having started on gaming sites/blogs?

Oh, and to answer Aaron, insanely exciting.
Yay. Knew you guys would be able to figure out something to suit all. As always you guys are awesome! :D You're always so in touch with the community and I've always appreciated that :)

For a moment I was worried you were scrapping the juicy insights into the characters and such you had planned entirely (love the wonderful characters you have made, so always a treat to learn more). But now reading the Kickstarter: "everything we had planned to do for the DLC will be included in the game"

Again... Awesome!!
Now lets watch the good vibes flow and the pledges rise :D

This is crazily exciting.

I was not offended by the DLC being a tiered reward, but I understand your reasons for changing it; as always you are looking to make the best experience for the gamers.

Fingers crossed that the donations continue to roll in: we're almost up to 25%!
Great news, Aaron, thanks!

I don't think DLC is the root of all evil, but it's been so misused lately that most people just hate it. I guess it's a good move to take it out.
DLC has really gotten a bad name lately. I'm looking forward to a day when it will not be blindly frowned upon. Although I supported it, I guess you guys did a good move. It's ridiculous that such a tiny thing could raise such concerns. *goes back to promoting the hell out of this project*
Thanks for taking the time to post Aaron.
I will be stoked if this gets to 25% today! Which we look well on track to do.
Maybe they'll replace the DLC with a PI handbook? :-) Although, that's going to be a lot of rules to think up! We couldn't even come up with that many new ones on Facebook.

I think the reason they didn't offer a PI Handbook was, like the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition, once you make them all up or print it as a 'whole' it limits you. IE; they can't just make up a new rule for the next game because hey, why wasn't it in the book before?

Though in theory they might be able to make the book look incomplete, like some pages had been ripped out of it. Dunno how practical/cost effective it would be though to 'remove' pages in a way that they look removed.

It's punctual accommodations like that, that is really going to help things!
