Who was the Tex "father"?
Who created "Tex Murphy" character, in "Acesss Software", in 1989? The first Tex games "Mean Streets" and "Martian Memorandum" weren't based on Aaron Conners novels. And "Aaron" name is not present in games credits.
So, please, tell me: who created "Tex"?
Thanks in advance.

Good question. If you watch the realtime movie on the unoffical web site you will see a half hour or so movie with chris jones playing tex (god it's been so long I can't even remember if that's right!) and a few others playing other characters. Whilst it's not based on any Tex game you know, there are names of about five characters from various games who crop up. This was before Aaron arrived on the scene, so my guess is that Chris was one of the earliest creaters of the idea.
Aaron has even said in the past that it's an idea he joined up to, but then really liked as well. As we are all so lucky to have had Aaron as a writer for Tex stories we associate him with Tex just as much now, but then he has done a lot to develop Tex to the one we all know and love.
(Am I just rambling again?)

Tex's original name was going to be 'Tex Mutant'... it was the name they thought of when they were playing around with alien flicks using Chris Jones' character (such as Plan 10 From Outer Space). They also did a few flicks like 'The Singing Detective'. Perhaps they decided to bind the two characters, thus spawning a futuristic Detective. This is most likely when Chris began coming up with ideas for Tex's future adventures, and how we began seeing a few characters popping up here and there.
I can only assume that when they got together with Aaron, they entertained the idea of turning Tex into a game hero and thus changing his last name to Murphy in order to deem it more practical... and so Tex Murphy was born... the futuristic old gumshoe Detective we see in Mean Streets.
As for the 'Father' of Tex Murphy; I am not entirely sure. Tex was definitely a whacky creation of Chris' from the 'way-back-when' days of their sci-fi flicks, and when Aaron came along I think Tex was given a home. I am not sure how close I am but AC might have a bit more light to shed on the subject.

Aaron Conners didn't have significant creative input until Under A Killing Moon. Mean Streets (the first appearance of Tex Murphy) credits Chris Jones, Brent Erickson (the game designer/programmer) and Brian Ferguson for writing. Bruce Carver directed and produced the game.
I think Aaron joined Access just before Martian Memorandum was made, but he didn't do any writing or character design until UKM.
