Running Overseer
Wow, first time I'm asking for tech support for a Tex game. I guess I never really tried to play them on Windows XP. I always used to jsut play them on my old computer. Ah well on to the question...
I finally decided it's about time for me to play Overseer again... haven't played it in well 2 years most likely! I installed it with the DVD version as the CDs I have (2 copies) are in fairly bad shape.
Now I heard I'd need DVDExpess to play it, so I got that and installed it. Started the game up, and no movies would play.
Also when it started to load Tex's office it came up with an error but there being no error or something. Once it loaded the office I could move and the mouse seemed to be pasting it self all over the picture. so if I moved over to the travel panel and bought it and closed it, it would still be on screen!
Hope I made some sense here, and hopefully I'll get the game running again!
Thanks guys,
- Chris Marsland

"Passion doesn't just happen... You make it grow".
I only have Windows XP installed...
And as I explained the cds for Overseer are in not good condition... As to why I want to play the DVD version? Well why not... I've never played using the DVD version of the game, and I want to experience it with no disc swapping for once and just to see the quality of the cutscenes...
I don't have a problem with windows 98, I just don't have it... Nor do I have a problem with Windows XP... People bash operating systems too much... They all do the same thing.

I get the same error (unknown) error when I play with the regular cd's on my XP machine. I know that if you try to play without installing the Intel sound device then the sound will be crappy and the game will have extra problems. I can tell you that in the game I just cliked ok on the error and was able to continue playing. Frankly I never was able to get the DVD running.Marsie wrote:Wow, first time I'm asking for tech support for a Tex game. I guess I never really tried to play them on Windows XP. I just checked the old ezboard and noticed a post offering a fix for the mouse pasting thing:

Probably more floating around over there... but thats what I could find so far.
And there was a thread I found for video problems here:macklee1 wrote: When playing Overseer in WinXP and it leaves mouse 'trails/Artifacts' on the screen or the sliding menus don't work, here is the fix.
Click on the Windows start button and select 'run'. Then type in "dxdiag" without the quotation marks.
This will bring up the DirextX menu. Select the 'Display' tab.
Then select 'Disable' directdraw.
Exit the menu and start Overseer. Once Overseer is going go to the now too familiar(lol) advanced preferences menu and select the 'Hardware' option at the bottom.
Exit the game and go back to the DirectX menu again and 'enable' the DirectDraw back to the way it was.
This should work. On my computer the Software/Hardware option didnt appear in Overseers Advanced option menu until I turned off the Directdraw temporarily. You may have to go back and forth a few times in order for it to work. Good luck. jml

Did you install the 1.04 patch for Overseer?? If not, you can find it here: http://www.lpcdaust.com/html/downloads.html
Chris, I've had the same problems, once before. You definitely need DVD Express and Overseer 1.4 (Because it adds DVD Express as an applicable MPEG2 decoder).
They both can be found here:

When playing Overseer in WinXP and it leaves mouse 'trails/Artifacts' on the screen or the sliding menus don't work
I had this same problem in win 98SE & tried changing my display driver a few times with no luck.
I found the problem was with nvidia drivers & winfast/win dvd software dvd player, once I uninstalled the program the problem was fixed. It seems this program corrupted the driver. Nvidia have stated that it happens with version earlier than version 5
I am running win 98se now on a separate hard disk just for my tex games.
