Everyone needs a place like the Brew and Stew...

For the most part, there is always that local joint that seems to be the local heart of the neighborhood where you can get together, get a pretty good bite to eat, socialize, and a damn good cup of coffee.

Part of gave Tex Murphy its charm was Louie and the Brew & Stew as we all knew a local spot like that at one time or another. Whether it was a greasy spoon diner, a hole in the wall pub, or a off the beaten track coffee shop.

For me, it's a local burger place called Val's. They don't do a lamb chili like Louie's, but they make a damn fine hamburger and the best damn milk shake you will ever have. It's been there since the early 60's, and the only changes they've made is the prices. On a Friday or Saturday night it is nigh impossible to find a seat, and the parking requires you to be very alert.

So, all you Tex Head's, tell us about your Louie's.
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came
Nice thread!

Actually out local cafe/diner that is similar is called the "Brew ha ha" so it's very close to Brew and Stu! Nice atmosphere too... Although they need booths!

@David Monath - No, you're image of BFG Headquarters is correct! We have sleepovers every night, trade secrets, watch "Cheers" marathons.... and no one is ever allowed to leave! Mwahahahhahahahahaha....

@Chris/Aaron: Cheers!? B-b-but Night Court is where it's at!

@Matthew - I beg to differ, my friend. We love the "Diane/Sam" chemistry!

We were discussing just that in the IRC chat some other night. Every good piece of fiction needs its local joint.

There are easily a few hundred such spots in Montreal, and of course we had/have ours. Wonderful greasy dinner that's filled with our collective memories. Every good night in the past 10 years have ended at that dinner.

Brew Ha Ha? That sounds like some sort of a play on words. Of course, the only word i can think of is Bruja. Bruja Ha?

I agree, by the way. A local watering hole, a place with familiarity is important for certain pieces of fiction.

My favorite so far is probably Noonan's, from Hitman.
