When did the WWIII happen?

What troubles me about Tex Murphy is that we dont get to know much about WWIII including when it happened.

The timeline of Tex' life in this site says that it was in 1998, however after finishing MS, MM, UAKM and halfway the novelization, I did not find any such reference.

However in MM there are several documents related to Collier Stanton. Those mentioned doomsday attacks around 2017 (which were an oportunity for Stanton to escape and disappear).

I dont know if those events are supposed to refer to the WWIII or are a minor post-war conflict

Here is another clue: according to the timeline I assembled, anyone can notice that Louie has been born during the 80s, and Rook is presumably even older and both have fought in the War.

However I have noted that dates are generally careless. According to MM, Mars has been terraformed for 50 years or so, which makes it back to 1989! Guess Tex happens in some alternate timeline.

Everything you wanted to know about the post-WWIII era
There is actually a reference to the time frame in Pandora.

During the scene when you are talking to Malloy at the Waterfront Warehouse, Malloy talks about the anti-hydrogen breakthrough in 1998. Because the military was in a hurry to find an edge over the Middle East Bloc, they didn't test the technology and began "bombing the hell out of the Middle East" with anti-hydrogen weapons. Tex refers to it as the greatest "snafu" in history. No specific mention is made of WWIII, but they are clearly referring to it here.
That timeline is pretty inaccurate. For one, Tex Murphy was born in 2004, not 2009.

If you check the source, the date 2009 derives from Tex's remark to Rhonda in MM that he is about 30. But it also says that Tex possibly rounds it down.

The UAKM novelization fixes it down to 2004 or 5; however since the novels diverge from the games, there is a different timeline for them

Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it! Tell me if you spotted other inaccuracies.

I'm not sure I would base the timeline on dates from Mean Streets or Martian Memorandum. I think continuity was less of a concern at the time. Pulling information from UAKM, Pandora and Overseer would likely yield more consistent results, such as Tex's birthday, March 4, 2004. This can be found using AID in Overseer.

I'm pretty sure that Pandora takes place between April 13 and 22, 2043. Tex comments on the postage receipt he finds at the Waterfront Warehouse as being from nine days ago. As I recall, that would make Day 5 of Pandora April 17 and the rest can be deduced from there.

The Overseer case is in 2037, as indicated in the opening scene of that game, not 2033. I believe Mean Streets set the date as 2033, but I would go with Overseer instead.
Yes, Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum are like the KTMA season of MST3K. It's where they got their start but they aren't considered good shows(comparatively) and are, thusly ignored.

FYI... the Moon Child was destroyed on December 31st 2042, if you want to update that bit.

Geez, you guys are total nerds.

Everyone knows Tex always stays 30.

Duh!

Some years back I received a complete explanation of WWIII and what exactly took place. It was a combination nuclear/biological conflagration that took place circa 2004. How do I know this? (Ahem) A little bird told me. I cannot divulge his name but his initials are AC.

+3! (Even though I conveyed the same sentiment in another thread, Jim is worth doubleposting a welcome back-post for!)

Hey, I guess that technically makes it...
