Joining the fedora club!

Spotted this in a shop today and couldn't resist! So it's not accurate, who cares? It's a fedora! Image
Wear it with pride and with a smile, knowing that our favourite PI is making a return, and you had a part to play in that.

Nice lid, lad. Wool or beaver fur felt?
I'm assured by the label that it's 100% wool, and the make is Anthony Graham in case anyone's interested!
Congratulations on your new fedora! Here’s some advice I got from my local hat shop many years ago when I bought my own fedora.

To preserve the shape of your new hat’s brim, never place it on a table, counter, or any other flat surface with the brim facing down (i.e., not right-side-up). Allowing the surface to push against the brim will flatten it, causing it to lose its pleasing curvature. As a warning example, look at Eddie Valiant’s fedora in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, then compare it to the one in Tex’s silhouette. You’ll see the brim on Valiant’s is a lot flatter. When setting your fedora on a flat surface, place it upside-down instead.

Also, never lift your hat by pinching the crown. It looks great in movies, but doing so will weaken the fibers there over time. If you feel you must, at least try to do it sparingly. I think the hat shop suggested lifting the fedora with two hands at the brim.

I did it with one hand for years, lifting at the forward outer brim, since my other hand tended to be preoccupied. This, however, seems to have ruined my fedora's brim almost as badly as leaving it right-side-up on a table, so I lift it from the inner brim now, hoping this will reduce the strain on it. I’m still struggling to force myself to remove it with two hands.

May your new (and quite gorgeous!) fedora bring you years of wearing pleasure. :)
Looks nice! I can't wait to get the Kickstarter one. The photo they posted looked pretty good. Hope it fits my tiny head!

I'd been meaning to 'join the fedora club' for a long while now, and I've wanted a Tex fedora for a long while. The bitch so far has been finding one as close as possible. Going off a combination of pics from the game and the image of the original fedora from the contest, it seems they "just don't make them like they used to..."

The shape, the brim, the band and the type of indent... it just seems impossible to find that combination.

The color is another issue entirely. It was a fairly light colored fedora. Interestingly, it DOESN'T look that light in the game. This makes it even harder to know what to get...

I see now why they're changing the Fedora. They can't get exact replacements and they likely had just that one. If something were to happen to it during filming...
Get one that you "feel" is what you think is about right. That is a combination of close to Tex and that suits you and your own preferences. Small details like bands can be replaced and added later. The "original from the competition doesn't actually look or feel like what I remember or have in my head as the ideal when I imagine or think about the Tex in the games. Things like this can be a very personal thing so it is more about the spirit of the item then trying to match something that was never one thing or the other and changed itself. Image

I got my brown fedora in San Francisco '08 actually. The inside says New York Hat Co. (http://www.newyorkhatco.com/) - it's pretty badass. I also got a similar one in Kingston, Canada, though that one is black, and unlabeled, unfortunately. I'd check out New York Hat Co. - they have some pretty neat stuff.

You've totally destroyed your chance to be a part of Men Without Hats now, I hope you know that.
