Horrible Tragedy Today

Not the tear gas.
I find it very upsetting that it seems there's nothing we can do about these things happening.

More laws? Maybe keep regular folks like this guy from getting guns that can kill a lot of people versus a handgun. They could still kill but fewer people. Criminals would still get these guns but they probably wouldn't do something like this because there would be no financial gain for them. They'd still cause a lot of collateral damage from the crimes they do commit. Either way, the community doesn't really win.

There will always be crazy people. Most times we can't tell they are crazy until they do something like this. What makes it worse is that in this modern age, we hear about it more often and from around the world. Every new story seems to sadden and weigh down your heart.

Darn it, I knew I should restrict my legal discussion to local Australian Law.

I heard Judge Dredd is the Law.

well I heard on the radio this afternoon that gun sales have gone up 43% since the shooting,

Is this for the american's to protect themselves or before the president passes a new bill on guns!

I'm going to try not to wade into the gun control debate. But, I think that the chances of a new bill passing regarding gun control are virtually nil, especially in an election year.
I don't understand how this guy could have passed a mental health check.

He said he was the Joker when he was apprehended. There are usually hints and warning signs with nut jobs like this.... unfortunately, no one cares enough about them to pay any attention before something happens.

I have a hard time believing this happened without any sign of mental illness prior to the incident.

And like Sam said... the criminals that have lots of guns, usually don't participate in mass shootings like this. Usually these people are mostly involved in the drug or human trafficking trade. They wouldn't go and do something that would draw this much attention to themselves.

I don't think gun laws are what stop this sort of thing either. It is changing the attitude of the masses that think they need guns to protect themselves and making it extremely difficult to get them in the first place. A meeting with a mental health professional should be in order prior to being able to purchase a gun.

I don't know..... the whole thing is just sad. I will just leave it at that.

He wasn't the Joker. He was a third-rate Howard Payne.
