OK im gonna kill myself if i cant play Overseer :(

hi folks,

Firstly i'd like to say its so nice to see you all keeping this game alive. Tex is my hero! I played UAKM till i was blue in the face and similaly with Pandora Directive. Now i have just aquired Overseer and am dieing to get started but it seems everything is against me :(

Game starts ok, but like everyone else im running XP on a high spec PC, and it seems overseer demands you still run win95.

I have the dvd decoder your supposed to use and it plays the movies fine!
after the initial movie intro, and that chat with chealsea (which all go ok) it then proceeds to load Tex's office. as the load bar reaches 100% it flashes an error, saying there is no error code or somthing, and then appears to load the room.

Everything looks ok, i have a mouse, and i can move about and interact with objects. But if i move the mouse to an edge of the screen, a menu tries to appear, then kinda dis-attaches itself from the edge, goes really small and semi transparent and is not usable.

So i've scouted this board to try and fix it, and messed about with settings, did the dxdiag disable direct draw and re-enable it, ive forced it into 640x480 mode and did the thingy -1 to 1, now the menu's come up properly, and sometimes i get mouse trails all over and other times i dont, and the game crashes constantly.

Can someone please help! :(

Thanks in advance...

As has already been stated elsewhere in the support forum, this 'non-error' is caused by Overseer's lack of compatibility with the new WDM driver models for MIDI devices in XP/2K OS's and newer. Without any hardware info on your part, I can't tell you any more.

This is a graphics issue that would be easier to sort out if we knew anything at all about your system (video device specifically).

As I said, rule #1 when asking tech advice for the first time is list your system's spec in detail. This will make diagnosing and curing the problem understandably easier.

What version of Nvidia Forceware are you using?

Im using driver version 8.1.8.5 if thats the right thingy
Tiran
Look in 'Display Properties', then the 'Geforce FX 5700LE' tab. It's listed there.

ok its 81.98

Uninstall the driver in 'Add/Remove Programs' (or whatever it is in XP) and then use this: http://www.drivercleaner.net/ to remove all elements of the previous driver. Then install this version: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=966

Let me know how you get on.

WOOT I got the game to work finally, thanks so much :)

Excellent! I thought it might be the drivers as I've been using the ones I linked to since no other ones I tried worked properly in Pacific Fighters without glitches.

Thanks for telling me it works, by the way. A lot of people just come here to register, get the info they need, and then disappear without so much as a 'Thank You' for your efforts. One of my two biggest pet peeves.

...the other is people who don't signal properly at roundabouts.

I hate roundabouts!
i'm_melting_i'm_melting,

would you know how to get Overseer to run on this system

AMD64 FX-55 (2600Mhz) Processor
1024 Mg Ram
ATI Radeon X800 XT Platnium Edition (Catalyst 6.2)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Windows XP Media Center Edition (with SP2)

I have tried installing catalyst 5.1 and changing the lock video thing in Tex.ini but if it loads it has cursor trails everywhere

Thank you in advance

Try uninstalling that Catalyst version and using Driver Cleaner (above), then installing this version: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=735

Let me know if the 4.2s work better.

In the games config. under the Preference tab - Advanced Preferences, Make sure you're not running in SOFTWARE mode. If so, then change to HARDWARE mode.

I tried the driver cleaner thing and re-installed 5.1 but it wouldn't let me boot up the PC, so I went back to 6.2 and applied the 1.04 patch and installed DVDExpress and tried to play with the DVD, it worked upto a point when you spike the coffee then it crashes everytime

So I tried with the CDs and after changing the LockVideo thing it works fine, I don't know how but it works.

IMIM, man I am grateful that you even answered my plea and gave me advice, I have posted before and most people don't even try to help, they just squabble on about nothing in particular, so to you man, I Thank You,

D1

P.S. does anyone know how to stop the sound from breaking up? I'm trying to take recordings from the game to put together a custom DVD Video
