Best games of 2012

To me 2012 has been a lackluster year for video games, but there have been some really good ones this year. What are some y'all's favorite games of this year?

Mine are: Spec Ops: The Line, Sleeping Dogs, Far Cry 3, and Doom 3 BFG Edition.
I really enjoyed playing Dishonored on Xbox 360. Great game. I recommend it.

Well for me hands down the winner should be

Far Cry 3

It's like Skyrim with guns, only better.

I also would put Guild Wars 2 (Best mmo to come out in YEARS, and you don't have to pay a fee to play each month), on the list.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
I was going to say, beyond the realm of doubt, that Batman Arkham City, with Paul Dini's magnificent writing, was the best game of 2012. But then I looked it up and realised it was released in November 2011.

And so I have nothing more to contribute to this thread!

PS: About Far Cry 3: I'm enjoying the game so far, but I was wondering why all the characters were so ridiculously bad and unlikable, and why the side missions were so very strange and out there. A bit of research on the internet has unveiled this:

Dishonored, hands-down.

It has indeed been a mediocre year for games, but there have been good ones. Borderlands 2, Diablo 3, Journey, Walking Dead...

Next year has me pretty excited. GTA5, Bioshock Infinite, and every adventure game I loved as a child coming back.
Personally I felt Dishonored to be freakin' boring. It has a somewhat unique setting and atmosphere, and that's it. The gameplay is sorely lacking, and the story is so thin and railroaded. And I have a special hatred on for silent protagonists. And don't get me started on the obviousness of the "plot twist". I could smuggle heroin through those plot holes. Anyway, 'nuff with the hatin'.

For me, though, the best game of the year was Telltale's The Walking Dead. Sheer brilliance.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Picking out a Game of the Year was pretty tough though. I decided that my Game of the Year is Spec Ops: The Line. The game has fantastic and intense story. Just the story alone was enough to put above Far Cry 3. To me Far Cry 3s story started off promising and started to become confusing and nonsensical. In my opinion.

For those that don't know what Spec Ops: The Line is, it's a third person anti-war shooter that explores the horrors of war and is a deconstruction of the modern military shooter genre.

I recommend checking it out.

Just finished episode 2 of that. The story is very well done, but the gameplay is intrusive. Like all of Telltale Games's stuff, this would be just as good as a movie.

When i first started to write this comment i couldent for the life of me remember any games that really stand out this year. However when i started thinking a few really big ones stand out.. Im a cie-fi nutter, and the best cie-fi game of the year has to be the space epic Mass Effect 3, witch was awesome! For the best MMO this year i would say The Secret World, i love H.P Lovecraft's books and this had so much "Lovecraftines" about it :) best "minigame" i would give to FTL another cie-fy game (you should really check that one out.. its really good).

Now the best game of the year i think i have to give to Assassins creed 3, if you havent played it.. well go get it.

there might be others to list but as of now this is what stands out in my mind.. Happy new year guys and galls :)
Diablo 3 =)

Spec Ops the Line get yer Conrad on..... a one thousand yard stare for two days.. it has to beld to a different standard
I live in my world, it's ok, they know me here
er that too ...held to a different standard than basic sonic the hedge hog and call of duty 10 go.. no bombardment just driving a point home its an awesome attempt Spec ops and after ya read the stuff that was cut ya get even more respect for the folks that pulled it off its worthy of a sort of cult status..i aint been blown away by a game in a long time..that spec ops did blow me away

It was a toss up between Hotline Miami and Journey.

I would mention To The Moon as well, but that was a November 2011 release. A shame. People talk about The Walking Dead emotionally affecting them. Well it did, but nowhere near as much as To The Moon did. Take from that what you will.

And isn't it sad that after god... must be a couple years now of not really posting (I have lurked now and then), it's a top games list that has me posting. ><

Imma gonna go back to lurking.
I gots a webcomic! http://yetanothercomic.com
I wholeheartedly agree. To The Moon is a fantastic game!
