Ender's Game Trailer

Not sure if they are going to ruin this or not.

Seems like it would be good, but it does seem to be more directed at the Hunger Games crowd and the book didn't have that teen feel to it.....

So who knows..... I think the demographic they are aiming it at might be a mistake.

Any opinions?

Well, I think if anyone insisted on making a movie out of this essay disguised as a novel, they had no choice but to do it that way. I don't think people would get sucked into the wargame philosophy lesson the novel offers, with its brutal violence featuring children.

Amusingly, the characters in the book are technically of no real interest, mostly serving as vessels to push a certain message. The reason of its success, however, lies with people getting attached to its cast, and the original appropriation of the novel by a teenage crowd.

The strange thing about turning it into a movie like this is it will get compared to Hunger's Game, although in reality both series offer a vastly different message altogether.

For the record, I liked the novel. And this trailer looks interesting, as a light sci-fi entertainment. I don't see the two as much related however, mostly because the focus on the story is irreconcilable with the essay format of the book.

Two things:

1. The book was phenomenal, a classic page turner with a fantastic ending.

2. In the trailer a statement was made that ruins the ending. My suggestion to anyone who has not read the book: read the book B4 seeing the movie.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
Is it just me or did Harrison sound as though he was just reading off the script with the dialogue we got to hear?
I'm a fan of the book series so I'm there! My main interest right now, though, is how much of Bean's story will be in it...

As far as the spoiler in the trailer, yeah I hate it because it's there purely for visual flash and I think it does a disservice to the film to put it there. Still, it's not that big of a spoiler, not as big as it appears at first.

As for the characters being interesting or not... well, my opinion is heavily tainted by the fact that I read all the novels. And my opinion is that the characters are one of the strongest aspects of Ender's Game, especially the children. The trailer focuses a lot on the adults and that's weird because the story barely focuses on them. Of course, I understand that the adult stars will more likely sell more tickets than the unknown child actors, but it's still a misrepresentation of the movie by the trailer... unless it's not because they changed the story a lot from the source...

In any case, it looks well done and I will reserve further judgement until I've seen the movie.
Just to be clear, it's not that I don't think the characters were uninteresting. On the contrary, I enjoyed Game and Shadow because of the characters, much more than the sometimes odd philosophy and Game Theory behind them.

I just don't think OSC wrote the essay with the intent of getting people so attached to the characters and make them the focal point, nor do I think he expected to have such a large audience of teenagers at the time.

Frank, I guess I just don't see what you're saying when you describe Ender's Game as being an essay disguised as a novel. I'd like you to expend a bit on that if you don't mind... or maybe direct me some place that might shed some light on your point of view. To me, the only thing I can say about Card's intentions when he wrote the original short story was to, well, tell a story.
I don't know what to think about this. It sounds like a good movie, but Card is a pretty disgusting human being. He doesn't hide it like Chik-fil-a does. He's a proudly awful homophobic bigot.

It should be possible to separate the art from the artist, but in truth, the artist matters, and it works both ways. Would I like Tex Murphy as much if the team behind it were a bunch of horrible people? Of course not, and I wouldn't have given them the large slice of cash I did either.
