Adventures @ Games Convention 08 -Vampyre Story etc.
For those who are interested in some of the tons of adventures that were an issue at the Games Convention, i recommend the following thread at justadventure.com, where i gave some short reports ( and quite some links to all of the new screenshots that our own site uploaded throughout this weekend) about what I´ve seen at the Games Convention ( My nickname over there is Murphy2042)
Here is the link: http://justadventure.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1219420262
The coolest thing by far was A Vampyre story. I talked about it a bit in the JA-thread.
The most awesome adventure-experience i had in years for sure, it´s nearly completed and the current release date is late october ( USA and germany). At first i wasn´t sure about the U.S. date, but i checked it on JA, it´s the same as in germany.
Here´s a quick link to our pretty large Vampyre Story Screenshot-Gallery, including new screenshots from the Convention.

This game will blow people away, not that that would be big news, but now that I´ve seen it in motion and got some precise explanations about it, i feel even more secure to make a statement like that.

I remember you talking about A Vampire Story some time back... Glad to hear it is in the Final Stages... I've wanted to play it since you first brought it up... Late October sounds pretty good... If I don't get it when it first comes out I'm sure I can make it a point to get it as a X-Mas Present...
Any News about Gray Matter at the Convention??? I'm really, really, waiting on that game as well... Shame they keep having set backs...
Glad to see you had a Good Time though, I'm sure it was worth it...

Thanks. Indeed i had a wonderful time. I met a lot of nice and interesting people, and especially the evenings after the actual convention were great. I
had too much alcohol, too little sleep, but overall it was a blast ,oh yeah and then there was A Vampyre Story of course, that game was entirely worth running around there beeing hungover.
Concerning Gray Matter: I will just copy and paste the Gray Matter part out of my Just Adventure- Report, that was really the only downside the GC had for me, but overall i really had too much fun to complain too much about it.
Here´s the pasted part:
...but i also don´t want to forget to mention the only downside the GC had to me personally and that was Gray Matter.
It was officially announced to be shown at the GC but it wasn´t.
At our appointment with DTP, there was no word about Gray Matter, so i asked about it and then i was told that the presentation version didn´t make it to the GC on time.
Then i asked if we would see something of Gray Matter in the near future and i was told that we would and that Wizarbox is working on Gray Matter as hard as possible right now.
I don´t know but these official GM statements traditionally don´t seem to lead anywhere, so I don´t believe one official GM statement anymore until i really see something of it.
THis was really a bummer, after one year of non information policy the GC seemed to become the turning point and then they don´t deliver ( ANd if i hadn´t brought up Gray Matter, it wouldn´t have been mentioned with one word).
Whatever the true reasons are, this whole project seems to deal with lots of problems, and I can only hope that in the end it will be released at all, and that it will be a worthy Jane Jensen game.
I just can´t get rid of the feeling though that all the Jane Jensen fans got slapped right in the face once again at the Games Convention, which really sucks after 9 years without a new (despite all the casual stuff) Jensen adventure.
But anyway: In the end it was awesome at the GC and the very high number of potentially interesting adventure games is really a very good sign for all of us adventure gamers.
Cheers

Bummer news indeed... And I just found out about the game a few months ago, shame that this has been going on for 9 years...

I could be mistaken but it's my understanding that the problems are arising from the multiple companies involved. First they green lit the project and if memory serves decided to fire the previous development company and went with Wizardbox.
Now it's one of those things where the game isn't supposed to be out until 2009 and DTP just decided after not meeting their presentation deadline to put their energies towards the games they do have coming out soon for the Convention. Which isn't a bad use of time.
It's just disappointing for Jensen/Gray Matter fans. The game will come. We've known for quite a while that it wouldn't be out until 2009 (and I heard holidays 2009) so we've got a long wait. I can understand DTP's PR stance.
In fact it has a better history than Vampyre Story which was first announced in 2004. It has had release dates of 2005, 2006, 2007, and now 2008 (first early 2008, now late 2008).
Still Vampyre comes from some really talented guys who used to work at LucasArts.... so I've got my fingers crossed.

I'm looking forward to both games... Hopefully neither of them have anymore set backs...
From what VonGlower has said, sounds like we'll get Vampyre Story this fall/winter... That's great news as long as it doesn't get fouled up...
I just wish that they could commit Gray Matter to a Release Date as well...
As for the Why to the Delays, it has been the development teams, along with some others... Von mentioned all the reasons in another thread a few months ago, but I can't remember them all...

That´s not completely right, since we were shown Black Mirror2 at the Games Convention, which is faaar away from beeing released.lotus_j wrote: Now it's one of those things where the game isn't supposed to be out until 2009 and DTP just decided after not meeting their presentation deadline to put their energies towards the games they do have coming out soon for the Convention. GM is the only DTP game with a complete non information policy for about a year, normally they publish some kind of news, screenshots for every game no matter how far it´s away, at least every now and then. In case of GM there was nothing for a year. It was announced to be released in the 1.st quarter of 08.
DTP let that date pass by, without even announcing a new release date or replying to their angry board members.
There are some real problems behind the stage, that´s an open book.
Even though people thought that after Tonuzaba was exchanged for french company Wizarbox, things would normalize, also considering the information policy.
Their PR Manager told me we would get to see something soon. Thing is, they´re saying this for one year, without any further info. Still I guess at some point it´s gotta be true if they don´t throw the game right in the garbage can at some point ( Which i still I can not imagine, since this doesen´t happen to DTP games, at the same time no other game of the past DTP portfolio was in a situation like this, but the ammount of money they put into this already makes the worst case scenario even more unlikely to happen).
So i really hope this time (for once) they stick by what they say, and let actions follow, since this whole GM - PR situation turned into a bad joke, that really reached it´s negative climax with their announcement of showing it at the GC, and then not mentioning it with one word.
For the meantime I ´ll try to stop caring and look foward to the Halloween release of A Vampyre Story ( And tons of other potentially really good adventure games like Book Of Unwritten Tales, Whispered World, A New Beginning, Mata Hari, Still Life2, etc. etc.).
And when GM will be finally released ,all the weird stuff going on , will probably be forgotten, at least if it´s a worthy Jensen game.
I've been caught up in other things, I had my health issues in September and October and then went to Disney in November, now Christmas is upon us, I didn't even know Vampyre Story had come out... I'll make sure to have my Wife pick it up for me for a X-Mas Present...
