Overseer Windows 7
Ok before I started yes I have read all the xp/vista guides (not sure why the vista procedure is not working on win 7 but anyway)
I am unable to install Oversser on Windows 7 x64 at all I have setup.exe set to win 95 compatability mode with administrator checked and I keep getting
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computers system information to see whether you need a x86(32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and contact the software publisher."
Has anyone got it running under Windows 7 (I have no problem with UAKM or Pandora on Dosbox)

I think you would be battling installing a win95/98 program on a 64 bit machine.
the difference is pandora & UAKM works under dos box on top of windows,
I have got pandora working on a 64 notebook under vista but it's the gog version.
cd/dvd version of overseer on this board works win 32 win 7. Just remember overseer doesn't like dual core & dual video cards, you need to disable one.

have you tried this -
There is an easy way to circumvent the problems on installing Overseer in a x64 environment; just copy the Overseer folder to your hard drive and play from there.
This even allows playing the DVD version. Just copy the patch files over the originals; install DVDExpress (you know the usual).
But! there are two weird glitches, haven't found a way around this: the weirdest thing is the fact that the mouse cursor dissapears while trying to play the dvd version. In the CD version only the alcatraz cell-block a crash appears, had no other crashes. and I happen to be playing under Vista64.

Worked great I am using my DVD and with lockvideo = -1 the cursor is there (if I do 1 the cursor disappears) thanks again considering overseer is the only tex murphy game I have never finishedrgdelta wrote:did not know that all the guides I read said to install I will give that a try and see what happens thanks I had the craving to play the Tex Murphy games and I have them all so I will try that thanks.plumgas wrote:have you tried this -

Hello everyone! I have been wanting to play all the Tex Games leading up to the release of Project Fedora. So far, I bought UAKM from GOG, and got Pandora to work with my old CD's. But Overseer DVD has baffled me. I am running Windows 7 64-bit. I don't have the CD version (did the ol' "split the cost with a buddy" thing back in the day; he got the CD's and I got the DVD).
I appreciate everyone's help so far, and I have followed the advice in this thread - copied files from the DVD, 1.04 patch, DVDExpress, and I still have the exact problem plumgas states: everything works except the mouse pointer disappears - when I am in interrogation mode. I click "Ask About" and pick a topic. After the video stops, the Notepad comes out, and the pointer is "hidden" where if I move it to the right place, I can still click on other topics, but obviously without being able to SEE the pointer, that is very hit or miss (mostly miss)!
LockVideo=-1 won't work at all. I never get a pointer at all when I start the game, not even the "hidden" pointer.
LockVideo=1 is better - I get a pointer when the game starts, but I get the symptoms described above.
1) Hoping anyone can help me solve the pointer problem?
2) If not, I'm ready to just pay the $9.99 at GOG to play it, BUT, can anyone tell me if I should expect it to work on Windows 7, 64-bit? GOG.com says it works on WinXP and Vista. Doesn't say anything about Windows 7 and definitely doesn't say anything about 64-bit. It's only $10 but I'd rather not spend $10 if there's no chance it will work...
Thank you for any help you can offer!

Experts, I downloaded the DVD version of Overseer from GOG and installed it but when I run it I see the first frame of the intro video, hear the whole intro audio, then nothing. If I hit the window key to return to the desktop and then click Overseer in the taskbar I see the menu at the top of the screen but can't move the mouse.
