demo question?

In the demo, I had to use the keyboard to move forward and backwards. Is this the how the game is going to be? I hope not. I really liked the old way.
Yes. That is the standard modern control scheme. You just have to get used to it. It's far superior to the old games. I love them, but their controls suck.
They should try to support the old style movement. What was the "casual" mode for? I didn't try it.

It's nothing to do with being "modern". WASD is good for FPS's, but sometimes adventure games need a different feel/pace to them.

I feel like games like Shenmue are better because they have silly controls like dpad up for walk instead of the analogue stick. If we put GTA/Gears of War controls in it wouldn't feel the same.
I have no problem with the overall control method. What this game could do with is a bit of FPSimulation. That is incorporating the technique shown in the video at http://youtu.be/q1xx-f8WDV4 . If you read the captions and description is describes the idea of the mouse controlling the eye movement but the eyes then being affected by the head rotation which gives a very nice effect when standing still. It allows for having an ability to look around objects without having to constantly shift your whole body. Something perfect for these type of exploratory adventure games.

In general, i'm liking what I see in the demo lots of nice descriptive dialogue for items. All the video is of good quality but i'm not sure if there is a bit to much one liner humour in it. I know thats the style. Going to be a purchase anyway.
they use the wasd but I just use the arrow keys with my left hand & mouse with my right. I have a couple of games that only run on certain keys & no mouse movement & arrow keys will only do selected things. I always have to write down what each key so I am not pressing the wrong ones.

tesla effect I feel very comfortable playing the demo with the arrow movements.

Is the demo the same as the "beta"?

thank you
I wouldn't want the old controls. The old controls are like someone learning how to drive a stick shift, with all the starting and stopping. Moving around with the mouse was awkward, changing elevation was silly. Tesla provides a much more fluid control scheme.

Now, if they had the old control scheme as an option, I wouldn't care because I'd never select it. As long as it didn't occupy the default.

Being an avid fan of the FPS genre, I personally love the keyboard layout. It's the interface that i've always wanted for a Tex Murphy game because I can search the environment more fluently than with the stop-start gameplay of the UKAM and PD. Overseer actually did have a pretty decent engine that was a step in the right direction, but something was missing. Then came Tesla - perfect.

I really hope there is X-Box controller support though.
WASD/mouselook takes a little getting used to if you haven't played games in the last 15 years, but it's for sure the only way to go. The old controls are the worst thing about those games these days, and if you watch a modern gamer try to stumble their way through UAKM you'll understand why they aren't a viable option.

If direct support isn't in the game itself I recommend checking out the free driver software MotioninJoy which lets you use your Playstation or Xbox controller to play any PC game:

When I played the demo and the floor half opened in front of the fireplace, I wondered where the duck key was so that I could go down there.

By the way, where was the code to the safe hidden? The hint "system" told nothing about it. I used the method of trying every combination from 000 and upwards.
Spoilers ahead.

The safe code is written on the painting above the fireplace. Once you rearrange it correctly, you can see the numbers written faintly on it.
this question about where the code was for the safe, well to know there was a safe you had to look at the painting on the top floor. Tex even tells you the painting on the lower floor had numbers on it......so this didn't give you a clue
