Can anyone seriously see this working on a tablet?
During the Kickstarter drive there was a lot of talk about Android support and possible support for iOS. Given the size of the game (13-15gb) and minimum system requirements, even with a visually scaled down version of Tesla, would it really be worth it? I'd hate to play this on a tablet after experiencing how amazing this is on a PC. That's before even addressing the storage issue. It could work if cut up into 12 episodes (one per day). But even then...
I'd argue you could easily get it down to the size it needs to be since most of the file size comes from the 2k resolution FMVs.
I've done MP4 encoding before where its been a fraction of the size, you'd still be looking at anywhere between 2-3GB though. But it could be pulled off. The actual game portion I'd even say is relatively small compared to the FMV portion.
Likewise though there are plenty of other optimizations and compression methods you could use to really reduce those file sizes.

I'd just hate to think that it's at the expense of visual quality. I realise that isn't everything, but it's obvious that Big Finish made this game with large screens in mind. In fact, I don't feel i'm doing the game justice by playing it on a 14 inch laptop screen, I really should be playing it on my HDTV. I want to do this but there's no analogue control support, keyboard and mouse on the couch doesn't work for me.
Yeah I agree about the video resolution, 2k resolution is a new thing so there is still the option of standard HD with a decent compression codec which wouldn't make a terrible impact on quality. There are seriously some impressive codecs out there that can trim filesizes down and still retain crystal quality.
This game uses Unity Engine right? There are some articles around about iOS and Android games using that engine too.
As for playing the current game on your HDTV. Run a HDMI cable between your laptop and TV then you're good to go. My second monitor for my PC is a Sony Bravia HD TV.

I'm loving the 2k resolution but I think even standard definition would be fine on a scaled down screen size. The thing I'd wonder about is how to differentiate between guided movement through the world and then selecting items and interacting with them in the interface.
My default perspective would be to have Tex on as many platforms as possible, so if there's a way, I think it'd be worthwhile considering.

I'd rather see a console release ahead of tablet. The other thing is that tablet gaming is typically geared toward the casual market. I'd like to think Tesla is targeting a more "full time" gaming audience.
As for my TV, yeah, got the HDMi so that's all good. it's just that I don't want to sit on the couch with a keyboard and mouse.

Ouya is six steps away from being six feet under. Seriously, there's a tonne of articles writing about how much of a letdown it was. Frankly, it's no surprise. Which developer would want their game on a system where the selling point is being able to hack and mod it to your heart's content?Sai wrote:Apparently that OUYA console that got launched via Kickstarter is powered by Android? So an Android version could also mean tapping into that market.
So you're not already playing it on your laptop with a controller? If not look into freeware driver Motioninjoy. I was able to get my Playstation controller working with PC games that have no controller support using it. There are some video tutorials on Youtube for setting it up if you get stuck.Joel wrote:As for my TV, yeah, got the HDMi so that's all good. it's just that I don't want to sit on the couch with a keyboard and mouse.

Groovy. Thanks for that.Sai wrote:So you're not already playing it on your laptop with a controller? If not look into freeware driver Motioninjoy. Well, the Android release was promised as the second stretch goal, so they've been making design decisions based on that. For instance, the inventory combining action that some have been unhappy with is that way specifically for a touch interface. In the last month I was told by somebody at BFG, "They are on the way." Apparently they are just waiting in some 3rd party components to catch up, but they're mostly functional.
I am completely confident that this can be done well, and I'd be happy to use 8-12 GB on my tablet for it. More than for me, though, I really think that having it on Android and iOS could potentially expand TE's market, which is something we all want.

You'd have to split it up into episodes. And even then there are issues since the cutscenes and gameplay aren't very evenly distributed. There are days with 20-30 minutes of cutscenes and almost no gameplay.
I think you could concievably split the game up into 3 or 4 episodes, but not necessarily even numbers of days.
