Gaming goals for 2015

So now that the year that resurrected Tex Murphy has passed us, what's next? What's big for you in 2015 in gaming? I've complied a list of games that I intend to play before the year is out. Take note that this not limited to games to be released this year. Some of these are games I have been meaning to play for over a decade but never got around to. For me, in no particular order:

- Virginia
- Life is Strange
- Blackmore’s Bane
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Dex
- AVGN
- Ducktales
- System Shock 2
- Zelda Majora’s Mask
- Grim Fandango
- Far Cry 4
- GTA V
- Batman Arkham Knight
- Batman Arkham Origins: blackgate
- Moon Chronicles

Currently playing through Grim Fandango for the first time ever.
If you love rich colors and stylized design, Grim Fandango will fascinate you. I played it through to the end. I don't know how far you are, but let me know when you get to see how a dead character dies (There is one part in particular I am remembering). A beautiful way to go, even if it does seem twisted. Actually, it sounds almost logical, when you think about it.

I haven't kept up with the gaming world and much of what you've listed I don't know. I do know that I was keen on the Gabriel Knight remastered, but from comments I've caught around, it sorta fell flat for some people.

So far I've just left the city and I'm currently trying to find the client. I'm up to that weird mechanical tree puzzle. As for the tone of the game, I already see what you mean because even at this early stage the game is playing with my expectations on where it is headed. When I went into this I expected something whacky or quirky, an all out comedy in the spirit of Day Of The Tentacle or Sam & Max. But it's not. That's not to say GF is...excuse the pun...Lucasarts' grim response to more serious, dramatic games, but it's not entirely a comedy.

Unlike the aforementioned two games, the humour in Grim Fandango extends from the tributes it pays to the films that inspire it. However, at the core of the game is a sense of purpose for the protagonist. Already I can see how this game may actually develop some emotional gravity and going beyond the comedic tone it has so far displayed.
You should do game reviews for magazines and such. I, however, could never do it. You give alot more depth to game descriptions than I. All I can say is the things that grip me most are vibrant colors, humor, and puzzles I can get through (or find someone else's walkthrough for it). A really good storyline will turn it into a classic game that will last a long time beyond it's "life expectancy" of typical games. I think Grim has a good story line. When you get through it, do let me know. I've two specific questions I'm dying to ask you, but don't want to spoil it for you!

Just finished Year 1. I'm actually really glad i'm playing the game at such a late stage because if I played it back in 1999 all of the homages to Casablanca and Maltese Falcon would have totally escaped me because i'd never seen those movies. The game, while being in itself a great game, is a terrific tribute to classic noir-romantic cinema. Good stuff. Manny smoking in the champagne coloured blazer has got me hooked. Let's see where this goes :)
