New years resolutions and 2006 in review...(so Far)

The mid-way point for 2006 is fast approaching. As I looked through the back threads I came across Cub's topic and thought I'd dust it up and bring it out for review.

SO? How has 2006 been to you? From what I've seen.....
Someone found love.... :D
Others have found themselves facing career obstacles, family problems, working on cool projects, and embarking on amazing adventures (to include living in your car)

I'll start the ball rolling....
I started out the year with two goals, both of which I completed. I've gained new friends...and maybe lost one too.
As the nest emptied I became more the person I never gave myself the chance to be...and found that I liked it.

The rest of the year seems full of promise, with some great things still ahead. (And no, I've not been drinking, so no liquid basis for my whimsical ramblings)

I only hope the rest goes as well, if not better, than the first half. And I wish the same for all of you too. :)

PS edit to add....and maybe....some good news on the Tex front!
My new years resolution for the past few years was to quit smoking.

Needless to say, I failed again.

However, with in the last year, I really have changed things around.

I mean the beginning of 2005, and the beginning of 2006 were so totally different.

At the beginning of 2005, I was still on all kinds of drugs, didn't have a license, was involved with a lot of shady people in the worst section of town in Columbus (The Hilltop) , and worked at McDonalds.

Now, I've got my CDL License, I have been clean officially now an entire year. As of today actually. I just realized that. I took my last hit off a joint last year, this same day. I quit cocaine about 2 weeks after that.

You know, if it wasn't for my dad, and his help ... I would probably be dead by now. It's good to know that even when you're at the bottom of the bottom of the barrel, you can still get by.
I'm not fat ... I'm festively plump.
What a great Father's Day tribute, Malloy.

Nothing big has happened with me. I'm boring. But then again, I didn't have any resolutions, so it's hardly surprising that nothing changed with me.

Congrats, Malloy! You were faced with a difficult road and traveled it well.

Hey, Jen! I'm really happy for you and wish you the best.

I don't make resolutions mostly cause I just break them anyway. However, I've been laid off for a few weeks now and actually feel great! Problem is, my wife got laid off as well and the bill collectors are trying to....well....collect! Ha! I spit in their faces! Not really, but things look fairly bright. I'm finding some part time work, signed up for unemployment (would appreciate if you all keep paying your taxes), fixing up the house (while its still mine) and trying to finish the Tex story/game we started a long time ago. Whew! More busy than when I was working!

Hat's off to you Mr. Malloy. What an amazing turnaround.

Jim, when are folks going to realize what a gem you are, and quit letting go of you????!!!!! I'm glad you're taking the time to enjoy yourself!

I hope to hear more....great slices of life. :D

Jen
Excellent idea Jen! It's good to do a follow up of the year's progress for all of us.

In relation to what I said at the start of the year:

"Going to bed at a decent hour, instead of my 5, 6 or even 7am mornings" ...well, I have improved significantly... I now average 2am most evenings. Mainly becuase I still do an evening shift at work.

"Improve my diet and resume regular exercise" ...ever since getting my cholesterol tested and being morbidly shocked I changed my diet and have since lost 10 kilograms in a matter of months and am finally getting some tone back in my body. I will be hitting the gym soon which i am really looking forward to.

"To become a doer and not a procrastinator and to get organised" ...pending.

Apart from the above, I have indeed found Love Jen. Ni and I celebrated 6 months since our kiss that started it all on the 16th of this month and she is the first person who I have ever shared th L word with (even though I have been in a few relationships before) and I could not be happier. Even though we have been seeing eachother for this long we still miss one another whenever we are apart, no matter how long it is. Okay, I will stop before I make some of you puke.

I got a new job again working as a Graphic designer but for PricewaterhouseCoopers which is pretty good... even though it is full time which i have to balance around full time uni it keeps me busy which is always a good thing.

Jim, bad news about the missus... but good things always prevail for good people so I am sure it will work out just fine.

Malloy, very inspiring! don't ever loose sight of such positive acheivements!

-Cub. =o)
"To become a doer and not a procrastinator and to get organised"
Someone once asked me if I was a procrastinator. I thought for a moment and said, "Let me get back to you on that."

Anyways, congrats on the other stuff, Cub, especially the L thingy. Hope this is it for you!

BTW, thanks to all for the encouragement, especially Jen's kind words. Gem - I like that! (Even if its only Fool's Gold.)

Reminds me of a Tex line I've used on more than one occasion. "Those barbels would be a great work out if they weren't so darn heavy. I'm gonna start using this as soon as I get in shape."

That's my training strategy. My cholesterol level is the same as my IQ ...
and everybody knows how smart I am. (Let the flames begin!) I'm in shape already. The only problem is that "shape", Oval, filed suit against me for copyright infringment. I'm so big that people try to walk around me and get lost. I'm so big that I once went to a Durham Bulls baseball game, and the batter mistook me as the big "hit and win free steak" bull. I went to this party once, and they sang this song "jump everybody, jump everybody, jump" ... no I didn't start an earthquake. I jumped and got stuck. Now that's big.

But seriously folks, congratulations on your accomplishments, thank you for the kind words. Heck, Jerry, I forgot it was Father's Day. Would you believe your words on here reminded me to the point that I called my dad, and bought him a card?

Jim, Cub, thank you for finding another way to up your post counts!

And heres to an even better rest of the year. Perhaps by the end of it, we'll have even more amazing stories to tell eh?

Well my last resolution was to quit smoking and i been clean for over 2 years now.

this year i didnt have a resolution so i might have one next year.

Anyways looks like we are gone have out own "Geting JTOG thought the summer event." i figure if we all send him a bottle of Geritol he chould extualaly make it thought the hot sommer.

Hope u dont mind me making a joke Jim but i cinsirly hope u get back up your feet soon and i bet everyone here agrees with me on that statement.

As for myself i have never met a nicer "JTOG" in my life who just out the kindness of his heart gave me books to read just becouse it would be hard for me to get ahold of them. I only wish i could do the same for u someday too, or others ofcourse.

Anyways my new years resolution for next year will probebly be working on my health and condition.
Live is too short to waste it make sure its with the one u love !

Well my last 2005 resolution ain't nothing but the same but this year 2006 resultion is about the same as last year but differently. :)
I don't remember my resolutions. I think one of them was to eat more cookies. I don't think I've been very successfull at that, although I'm sure my figure is happier for it.
