Adventure Game Thread

For a moment I was wondering: who is Jane Jenson and why should I care? Then I clicked the link and realized she worked on adventure games I never played. Still Gray Matter looks interesting.

Well if you didn´t play Jensens Gabriel Knight games I´d like to claim you left out the best adventure series of all time ( when it comes to atmosphere, storytelling, depth , soundtrack, character development). :D Yes I admit Tex is only on nr 2. for me but still the gap between 2 and 3 is soooooo gigantic it doesen´t really matter anyway. Jensen and Conners are the Kings ( and Queens) of adventure writing.
@ Bafitis No she didn´t speak about the release date, but it´s known it´ll be in 09
I'm personally looking forward to Mafia 2. It's so far been 5 years in the making, and a lot of reviewers who were granted the rare opportunity to check out very early versions of the game say it is on its way to surpassing GTA4 in terms of overall playability and quality. I will, however, leave my expectations reserved, but it does have a high benchmark to surpass since Mafia was such an amazing game. Even though it was technically a 3rd person shooter based game, the story was so rich and progressed so well that I was able to welcome it into my adventure-centric collection.

Check out the trailer here if you already haven't: http://www.2kgames.com/mafia2/ ...it kicks ass!

Not an adventure  BUT Mafia was truely a great great game and even though i don´t play that much beside adventure games I will definately buy Mafia2.

Not yet, but when I receive the game I´ll have a look at the games package.
Beside that, if the demo works fine ,you can expect the full version to do exactly the same.
That's true... For some reason it is taking awhile to download... I'm gonna have to check and make sure my Ports are Forwarded, because I've been getting some Stiffy Download Speeds for some reason...

I'm changing lanes here, but I need to know something. I really enjoyed The Longest Journey but am unable to play the sequel on my older computer. Two things: 1. Is it as good as TLJ and, 2. Is it worth buying a new computer to play it? Thanks!
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
Unfortunately I didn´t play TLJ2: Dreamfall myself ( Just like you, I only played the first part), but I´ve heard a lot of good stuff about it. What I do know is that there were some new "modern" ( What ever that´s supposed to mean  ) elements in the game that weren´t in part1 but everyone I know who played it, loved the storytelling. Here is a link to the adventure classic gaming review on Dreamfall, maybe you can find some answers in there:

Despite that, I just found a 7 minutes long video review on Dreamfall, which might be really interesting for you.

Thanks for the input, VG.

I seem to recall the requirements were more advanced than TLJ as well and most older PCs will not handle it.

I know I am going to miss some but oh well....

Space Quest 3 and 4
Sam and Max
And then their were none
season 1 of Sam and Max
and of course just like everone else the tex games..
I recently made a Monkey Island 3 (or Curse of Monkey Island if you will) theme on my phone. The ringtone is from the theme music off the intro, and the message sound is the soundclip of Captain Blondebeard (of Blondebeard's chicken parlor) going: "MADRE DE DIOS!! Es El Pollo Diablo!!"

I really wanted "Ahh... Papapishu!" to be my message sound, but... couldn't find it so I went with my #2 choice.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Alright, Bafitis you wanted to have my thoughts on Dracula:Origin when I´m done with it. So here they are: I´ll give the game 74% , and if it wasn´t for some good riddles and a decent gameplay it would have scored a lot less. The story is a bad joke, there nearly isn´t any story, 95 procent of the game you spend with riddles, the characters are poorly written as well, and there is no form of suspense or horror in the game. ( Not very good for a Dracula game isn´t it?) The graphic is nice, but since there nearly is no plot, no way of atmosphere ever comes up. To me it doesen´t have anything to do with Stoker or Dracula, the content is completely exchangeable, it´s all about riddles and the demonstration, that the writers can´t write.
Really disappointing , if you´re looking for a puzzlegame it´s a good choice ( Like i said the good puzzles are the only reason for me to give it 74%), if you´re looking for anything else, it sucks. It´s completely superficial and boring.

I did a preview on Dracula:3 Path of the Dragon recently. I had an english previewversion, that contained the whole game( I had to write a preview, because the game is released on august 15.th in germany, and the publisher surely wouldn´t like to see a review 2 months before the game is released). I can tell you that Dracula 3 is WAY better, the story is great ,with a very clever way of putting historic facts and fictions in there . Despite that D3 contains a lot of suspense and the atmosphere is a blast. You can have a look at the screenshotgallery of my preview here:

Bummer, this is Disappointing Von... The Graphics and everything looked great, I was really looking forward to this game...

Would you say it is worth 20 bucks??? Because that's all they want for it over at my local GameStop Store...
