The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it
Everyone has their preferences when it comes to watching movies...
I don't care for the flashing of lights without a main light source, gives me too many headaches, so I prefer the lights being on when I watch television...
I enjoy the theater experience from time to time, but in the comfort of my own home, I enjoy watching TV with the lights on, keeps my eyes from hurting when a bright flash comes on the screen...
Jim, I think the ending they went with for the movie was the better choice... Just my opinion...

Yeah, I do have to admit, some of the scenes in AvP 2 when they're switching from the Predators view to the darkness and back were a bit jarring. And bright. And accompanied by what sounded like a laser. Every...single...time.

That's all good, but even with the lights off it was hard making a lot of the scenes out, especially once the power in the city went out...
Maybe it was just the DVD that I had, not saying I won't ever watch it again...
I did like the main character... He is Sean from Rescue Me, just in case anyone want to know... It was a little weird seeing him as a Non-Idiot... lol

I don't think it's fair to rate a movie based on how many lights you can or can't have on in your house while watching. The movie was made to be seen in the theater (a dark theater.) I also wouldn't waste my time with a movie like AVP on a TV. Movies like that are definitely big-screen movies. Front-row, big screen, in the dark.

Getting back to "The Last Film You Saw" theme. I had an out-ot-town friend visiting this week, so didn't get to the movies much. But yesterday, I saw Flawless again (took my out-of-town friend), and today I saw "Smart People" and "Nim's Island."
Flawless was just as good the second time around.
Smart People was a nice film, but had a sort of low-key or depressing atmosphere. I would like it to have been a little perky-er. I couldn't help thinking that Dennis Quaid's role was essentially a Harrison Ford character. My daughter thinks that Dennis Quaid and harrison Ford are the same person - metaphorically speaking.
Nim's Island was a lot of fun. Jodie Foster's character was great. And for you folks down-under, it was shot in Australia.

AVP 2 was like that... The first one I have no problem with watching on a TV with lights on... In my main room where TV is watched the most I have a rather large HD Flatscreen Widescreen Set that if looked at Proportionately to a Theater, it is very close to Scale in size...
Okay, lets put the Predators and Aliens to rest, shall we Vracer??? *extends hand to shake*
I watched Number 23 tonight, it came on HBO has their new movie of the week... I saw this sometime back when it first came out on DVD, I think I picked it up from the Redbox... It was quite a movie... Very Different... Sure didn't expect the person who turned out to be the killer... I won't say anything too revealing, don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it...
It's strange how quickly you start affixing the Number 23 into your life and start finding them all... Don't worry this only lasts for about a week after your first viewing of the movie... lol

I just watched Revolver and I must say, that movie was nuts. Guy Ritchie isn't quite as funny as he used to be; I'd imagine a person would lose their soul if they were married to Madonna for as long as he's been. That said, the camera work is a lotter better and he now has a strange infatuation of combining classical music with slow motion violence.
Without ruining the plot line: the movie starts out as the gangster con film. You've got all these parties going around, you've got two crime bosses and an uber crime boss with a single man, Frank Greene, being paraded around. And then slowly but surely the actual mystery is revealed and it's like...whoa. Deep. Very, very deep.
And the various P.H.D.'s get shuffled out to give little sound bites about the topic brought up with the revelation. It's that deep. It's so deep we need Doctor's to show up and exclaim how accurate the revelation is.

If you like Robot movies, you should check out Evolver... It's about a Robot that a kid wins in a contest and it goes on a killing rampage...
Kind of low grade for the Mid 90s, but still a decent movie...

Please. If you could understand just what the hell Revolver is all about (in the end), please tell me. The story was surreal, like... Well, not unlike if Guy Ritchie wrote the script and Oliver Stone ate mushrooms and then made the film.
Y'know. Like they did with Tarantino's Natural Born Killers.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I can't tell you. But whoever wrote the summary at this link, thought about it a lot more than I did and maybe this will answer all you questions.Please. If you could understand just what the hell Revolver is all about (in the end), please tell me.

My personal favorite of Guy Richie's was Snatch.
Been a while since I had seen it, but my wife had never seen it, so we watched it together tonight... GOODFELLAS... GREAT Movie... I still love the one part;
"What Do You Mean I'm Funny, Funny How???" I'm sure you can fill in the rest if you've ever seen the movie... Simply Great Stuff...
It's amazing how often when Actors work so well together, that you never see them together in later films... Strange...

I saw Ben Stein's "Expelled - No Intelligence Allowed" last night.
It is a documentary about the suppression of free speech and free inquiry, particularly on U.S. college campuses and in the mainstream scientific establishment, particularly in regard questions about the completeness of the theory of natural selection as it pertains to evolution.
Having been involved in scientific research for some decades myself, I have too-often seen many examples of the kinds of suppression, and hostility that are characterized in the film. It does a pretty good job at describing the situation, but it gets a little heavy-handed about 3/4 through.
I can't recommend it as entertainment, but I certainly can recommend it as a documentary.

my whole point on Revolver earlier in this thread was that it seemed like it couldn't make up it's mind what type of movie it wanted to be. It seemed like it was going to be a revenge/gang movie....but then over the course of the storyline it shifted to a mental breakdown....I hate it when there isn't continuity in a script...
"Some men aren’t looking for anything logical. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”

That's less about continuity of script and more about continuity of genre. You watch a gangster film and there are certain expectations, you watch a (psychoanalytical philosophy?) film and there are certain expectations, and I'm fairly certain these genre lines don't blend very well.
Revolver is an odd film, but not just in genre or storyline. Guy Ritchie gives you very, very weird camera angles and cuts at all times. Who knows, perhaps Guy went into the making of the film thinking that everyone expected him to make another gangster film like Lock, Stock and Snatch, he then wrote the script and went on to film the movie, cackling maniacally as he shouted, "This'll show them up!"
I liked Revolver. The only problem I had with Revolver is that Ray Liotta spent far too much time without much clothes on. He got fat.

To follow up strangeness with more strangeness, I just watched Darren Aranofsky's The Fountain. A highly visual movie, constantly cutting for the years 1000, 2000 and 3000. At first it was confusing, but as the story progress the pieces began to fit in with each other. Hugh Jackman always kicks ass.
