Seriously, a game is meant to have fun, but when you're stuck it stops the fun. Or, as I sometimes think, that's exactly where you want to be as an adventure game player. Thinking hard about a problem, going through every logical combination of things you can do. But then you're just solving a puzzle and an adventure game is more than just puzzles!
I feel bad when I have to resort to hints or walkthroughs, but it's better than getting frustrated and giving up altogether. The funny thing is when it becomes too easy to look up a hint and you start doing it all the time.
