Anyone? King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters

Dr. Paul, you are right. The movie did a great job of casting Billy in a somewhat unflattering light. I posted right after watching the DVD. Emotionally swept up in the film, hook, line and sinker, my response was skewed, incorrect, and to paraphrase you "unclassy". It's true, and I'm very sorry. I did in fact after a few days, visit Twin Galaxies, and read Walter's responses to the movie in the forum. I've gone back periodically as he's updated them. I read the chat logs, the radio interview and other things.

The thought had crossed my mind about going back and editing my post, after finding out all the additional information, and learning more about Billy (not through a camera lens) but figured it was just another dead thread destined to fall off the face of this board.

My sincere apologies.

Jen
I just wanted to add that my daughter has recently gotten over 600,000 points on Donkey Kong.

Even though that's no where near a record, it's more than half-way. Not bad considering she only plays a couple time a week.
Sounds like she's got some skills.
Wish her luck to get to the "kill screen".
Jen,

Regarding your sincere apology post: Now that is class. Top drawer, first class, class.

Thanks
DrPaul
Over 600 000!? I know that it would seem fairly obvious but I am gonna state the obvious anyway. You realize that your daughter would have been in 6th place in the world. (Beating Billy's minion, the guy in the movie with the freshly unpackaged orange shirt and glasses.) Had you have recorded her performance from start to finish and sent it into Twin Galaxies (and potentially go through the same hassle as Steve) she could have been sitting in 6th place right now!

Man that would be so AWESOME if she went for the world record. I would love to see a girl mix things up a little in that world. There's not enough women in gaming and I think that would be perfect to see a girl come out as #1 on that chart. Maybe that's just me, but it's still a fantastic score, very impressive. Oh here's a snapshot of the current standings in Donkey Kong if you're really curious:

I can beat that score....I just don't want all the fame and hassle of the papparazzi that goes with being a celebrity...
"Some men aren’t looking for anything logical. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
About the 600,000...

Yes, I looked up the current standings on Twin Galaxies and was surprised to see the it would rank so high.

The high game of her's was a freak thing though. Like she was in the groove. It was totally unexpected and hence, not recorded. Usually, she's lucky to get 100,000 (I'm lucky to get 40,000). But if she can start to consistently get a few hundred thousand, we'll have to get a camera set up.
How old is she DrPaul???

Did I mention that there are talks in Hollywood that this is to be made into a real movie and rumours of Johnny Depp playing the role of Billy Mitchell? I find it funny that they would make it into a real film but it could be interesting. I think they're really stretching for stories in Hollywood but it would be interesting to say the least. I don't see them actually completing this project but who knows? I'll keep those interested posted.
How old is she DrPaul???
Sweet Sixteen.
Well with as much stock as people put into Video Games nowadays, she may have a bright future... You should start her on that Madden Contest they hold...

Is she into the Program half as much as she is in the playing??? Or does she not care about how the games are built, just in the playing???

No programming skills. She's an artsy-fartsy type. Just plays.
That's kewl... Lots of people like that... I'm not that big into the programming bit either... I can mess with the Config files a bit, I can toy around in the Registry or System files, but I'm mostly a player as well...

Seems like the message board has mellowed over the last few days, a lot...

More from the post that just will not go away! So this weekend there was a film festival going on here that I didn't even know about. A buddy of mine informed me about it and told me that King of Kong was playing in it. I wanted to watch it in theaters since I heard about it last summer. Finally I had a chance to watch it with an audience to see how they felt about it. Also it was a little weird going to the theater to watch a movie I already own on DVD.

This is a pic of the outside of the theater. It's a little old now. I actually hadn't been to this theater in about 11 years. It used to be the best theater in town until they built the big one in 1999 for the release of Star Wars EP01.

Here's the concession stand where I got my popcorn. I was surprised at how sparse it was. It used to be crazy busy back in the day.

I got my ticket and was off to theater 2. I was again surprised at how claustrophobic the hallway was as I walked down the stairs to get to the theater.

I couldn't believe how dated this theater looked. I didn't think it looked this old 11 years ago. I remember walking from my college dorm room to watch all kinds of movies here. I swear it didn't look like this back then.

Once in theater 2 I took a seat near the back so I could watch the audience watching the movie.

It was then that I noticed how run down the theater had gotten. 11 years earlier everything was pristine, clean and new looking. Now it looked like an old tennis shoe. Even the curtains that ran along the walls looked weathered.

Now that I had my seat and my popcorn it was time to put the feet up and wait for the others to come in and the movie to begin.

The lights went down and the show began.

I was surprised that I didn't get any reactions from people as I took a picture as the movie began. You'd think they'd respond to a bright flash and get angry. Hmmm

I was pretty excited to see this in the theater finally. I'd been waiting for about 8 months and didn't actually think I would get the chance. I was amused to hear people laugh at Billy's appearance when he appeared on screen.

During the film I could hear people getting right into the picture. The lady in front of me was almost yelling at the screen at certain parts (talking noticeably loud) at some scenes. This made the viewing totally worth it. From then on you could hear murmurs from around the theater as people reacted to the picture.

When the movie was over everyone applauded when the credits rolled and I could tell they all enjoyed the film. It's not often that a movie gets applause, especially when the film makers were nowhere in earshot. All in all it was totally worth the $8 to go watch a movie I already own on DVD. It was the response of the audience that made it all worthwhile. So if any of you have a little film festival coming up and they happen to be playing King of Kong, check it out. It's completely worthwhile.
