Only $3000
Sorry, came down ill this weekend, otherwise you know I would have been all over this Thread... lol
Yeah I'd be in...
But I think it would be a bit lower... Just because there were only 4,000 names on the Petition doesn't mean there aren't more fans out there... I've never signed a Petition, because I didn't know that communities like this existed until recently... I got wrapped up in having a family and dealing with life that left little time for my gaming days... I'm sure there are others out there like me who are now getting time on their hands that they haven't had in the past 10 to 15 years...
I think that if we were able to advertise a bit more, offering the help that this board has to help people get the games running, I think we would bring a lot of old fans back into the light... But those are efforts not many people have... My life may have slowed a bit to get back into things for my personal use, but I'm still swamped in paperwork every night, every morning I'm sitting at the courthouse, afternoon I'm sitting in an office most times... So I'm still busy...

Agreed! IMO, we must have all that made (for me) Pandora the ultimate game, including stodgy mouse movement (maybe it was just luck, because the machines weren't fast, or someone coded the most beautiful mouse movement ever, but I never felt so 'walking' in any other game ever since).Bjyman wrote:Full game only with live actors.

Honestly if I could break even or less financially on the deal I'd try to do it. I wish we could somehow get that many people together to do it
. But count me in as well in case this really worked out.

I'm definitely in with the rest of you guys....but I have only one small request....when the game is made, I must a small non-speaking role in the game a regular at the Brew and Stew. I would be the guy in the back eating some of Louie's meatloaf and drinking some Armaggedon Blend.

How about we use a Part of you??? We'll put you in Louie's Brain and Egg platter...adninsreaction wrote:I'm definitely in with the rest of you guys....but I have only one small request....when the game is made, I must a small non-speaking role in the game a regular at the Brew and Stew. Or maybe you can be that guy in the burning speeder???
Maybe we could use your Head to spoil Tex's new Water Cooler???

Here's a good idea I rec'd in a PM from Kivanc Avci:
It's a good thing you started a thread in the forum about a plan for fans to invest for a new game. I just wanted to know if you were serious or just did it for fun to know what kind of replies people would make. If you were serious i am with the plan, but i think for many people it's not official. i mean, if we can discuss the possibilty of partialle funding a new tex game with the help of fans, maybe the creators AC and CJ can come with possibilities and/or ideas. Because i saw many replies that many would in fact invest money. I was reading the replies and i came up with 10 people already. It's not near the 4000, but if we back AC and CJ with a partially funding they can find the rest or we can put AC to work on new novels etc... maybe we can make a list about who would contribute and maybe we could advertise on many sites. It would be fun and very hard work if we could get it done.
Personally i think we make the thread a sticky and discuss further about possibilities. Nothing is impossble. we just need a good start. What better way with enthusiastic people who would love to bring Tex back in any way possible. Maybe ten will begin, twenty will follow.
anyway i hope you do understand me.My english is not as good as many others on this board. but i would like to hear your opinion on this

I sent James a PM and asked him to earmark this thread.

Where is the $12 mil figure from? Maybe if we can get some cold figures from AC on how much different aspects would cost we could have a better understanding of the bigger picture. Also I think skills should be throwin in/included too. They may be able to save on a few things if someone here is able to get the ball rolling on a few aspects or at least assist. Also it may be that once some investment is made then AC and the team could be able to push the boat out on their own for the rest. Just to say, that it may be more encouraging to people to look at things with a smaller perspective and drive towards separate smaller goals than a massive figure from the getgo. Of course it also requires official backing from AC/the team too, just because they obviously know alot more about what they realistically expect when it comes to project investments etc.
I am actually not good on the money front at this time... so sadly I can't put in as much as others... but if something got off the ground I could possibly make up for that in skills as a illustrator/multimedia designer.

Oh on the topic of advertising an many sites, I recently worked on Flash viral games and feel that would be a good way to go for some quick advertising, they can generate millions of views (how many people take the extra step from the game to a donation or support though is another thing). I can provide the graphics, programming I may know someone (I know some basic code) or I'm sure there may be someone out there. Alot of major companies invest in viral games so they can work.

I found the Thread where he says it... It's in the Questions for AC and CJ thread...
400,000, that's kind of like a Slap in the face if you ask me...AC wrote:1. No change. I've tried to contact someone at Prima, without luck. They're based in San Francisco, and I go out there a couple times a year, so I need to remember to go to their corporate offices next time and see if I can get this worked out.
2. If we can get a game made, I don't know if I'll do a novelization; it's a big time investment for something that is essentially supplementary (though I take it as a great compliment that you would want me to write one). A novel would probably be the last resort, after an interactive audio or text game.
Though, I guess if I could get 5,000 people to commit to buying a copy it would be worth the time.
3. Over the past year, we've had many discussions with a variety of gaming companies, and I think we'd be lucky to get a $400,000 dev budget (so much for $12M!). I can't say exactly how this would impact development, except that we couldn't do a full movie shoot, we couldn't have a team of 40+ people, etc. I'll get back to you when and if this scenario becomes a reality.
4. I appreciate your suggestions and agree with much of what you say about drumming up interest in Tex, getting his name out there, and trying to build up the audience. But there are some major issues. For one, as you point out, the games are now 10+ years old. They've held up pretty well, but still... And the magic of Tex is experiencing those games. It would take a tremendous amount of time and effort to even attempt to bring Tex to the masses.
The bottom line is, we're focused on bringing Tex back to the people who already know about him. There are quite a few of you - of course, you people here on the UTM board are the elite ones- but in the adventure gamer community, I'd say there are at least a hundred thousand people who have either played the Tex games or are familiar with him. If we could get those people to buy our game, it would make it plenty profitable enough for us to keep going.
And, while the novels did all right, I don't they introduced many people to Tex - I think they were mostly bought by Tex fans looking for another experience in Tex's world.
I hope that addresses your question!

Ahh thats where it was from, thanks. I've been really busy recently so I never did get chance to fully read everything in Aaron's kindly provided answers.
I still wouldn't want to say that 12 mil is the number to rule a movement/drive for until theres a official confirmation though. Just incase it may of been something pulled out of the mind just for a casual answer on here.
Still it would be cool to get a breakdown of everything. Even if its some roundabout figure like: $3000 - audio editing.
Or whatever (pulling random figure from my head there). It could act like a little checklist to tick stuff off on, and generally would probably make people feel they were making more progress than if they'd earnt $3000 towards $12 million which is... a big gap obviously... And I know every project is different but AC at least has previous projects (and his current work on other games) to make some rough estimates from on certain things perhaps.

If need be, I would work for free to help get the game going. Whatever they need, I would do what I could to help out. I'd give what money I could and I would give my time. I think it would be so damn awesome if we all pulled together as a community and just gave what we could (i.e. money, time, computer skills, acting abilities, whatever...). That would make for a great story...."A gaming storyline that many thought was dead, until a large group of online friends got together and made some magic happen...Hi, I'm Ryan Seacrest, and this is E! News Daily."
I can see it happening.

It would make a lot more News Casts than just E! I'm sure...
The Publicity from it would be great advertising for the game as well...

Who knows that might not only increase sales for the game but pave the way for further installments of the series as well. Man if this could work and play out like that it would make for a great story indeed.
