Doc, is it possible for you to do Overseer as well???
Would you need an additional Flash Drive for it???

(Does the message system send things right away? It's still in my outbox. )
It stays in your outbox till I log in. Then it pops out to your sent folder. (I think it's to let you have a chance to delete it until the reciepient opens it. Merlot and email don't mix.)
I have my settings to notify me by email when someone sends me a PM.

To any of you that want me to setup the flash drives for you, there is one small piece of information that I'll need:
When you plug a USB flash drive into your computer, what drive letter does the computer assign to the flash drive?
If you have one CD/DVD drive, your computer will most likely assign the flash drive to letter E, but it might be F of G or something, depending on how many other drives you have.
Don't worry if it's E on one computer and G on another. It is configurable, and I'll send you simple instructions how to do that. But we might as well set it up for your most common use.

Wow! Looks like I created a monster with this thread - for the Doc! And it's good to see the Doc's positive responses, not that I would expect anything else.
BTW, Dr. Paul told me he had not, as of yet, figured a way to put Overseer on a flash drive. However, patience is a virtue and if the Doc can get it to work, I'm sure we will be the first to know.
One problem for me, though - I forgot all the nuances and logical order for playing PD. It's funny to see me trying to figure out what to do next! Oh, I'm finding my way around, but since I moved in May I can't find my personal walk-throughs and puzzle solutions. Eventually, I'll probably have to get out a copy of the strategy guide. Embarassing.

"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
If you are having problems with the Puzzles, Nilo has them all on his Site, you can just download them and then print them out...
As for Walkthroughs, I try not to use them until the game gets to the point where it is no longer fun and I just have to get past this one part... Doesn't happen to often, because I'll mess with it for days before it becomes no fun... I love the stirring of the mind... What really ticks me off though, is if I do get stuck and revert to a Walkthrough and then I see how easy and simple it was, just sitting there in front of me, that really burns me... Now on the other hand if it turns out to be something like, "Now I Never Would Have Thought To Look There Or Do That", then I feel a little better...
Sorry Doc, I hadn't seen Jim's Post before PMing you about Overseer... I'll be in touch about the Flash Drives and Drive Letters... With everything on this computer my Drive Letters go up to the Letter I without adding anything, plus I have other "Removable" Drives coming from the Printer that are given X Y and Z... So the Flash Drive Letter should Logically be J, but let me double check before asking for your services...

I don't know what the procedure is, but that's probably a good starting point. The CD images can probably be saved onto a flash drive, and Overseer can could also be installed on the flash drive. To play, maybe one would just have to mount the images.I figured out a way to play Overseer without the CD's (or DVDs) but it required mounting disc images. I am sure there is a better way though (with editing the EXEs etc. to not need CDs or CD images at all).
Oh my goodness, I'm right there with Jim.
Got my flash drive today. Grabbed a tasty beverage, sat down with my XP laptop, and in less than 6 clicks, the familiar music cued up, and I was back in UAKM.
Oh my lordy, talk about plug and play. Truly, it has been so far.
Thank you SO much Paul! I am loving it. Working on cuffing up Flemm right now!

Lordy I sounded like a goof online..
Anyway. Day one is in the can. Man I forgot how long these games were. Aside from a wierd random crash and once when Mick nailed me
all has been golden.
Saving is my friend. It's going to be a long night........
PS I forgot how much Ardo cracked me up!!

If you did that, it would quickly rise to the top of the list of items stolen, because as soon as someone sees the picture of Tex, they are going to quickly start thinking of ways on which they could steal it from you...jcarnby wrote:Now all that needs to be done is someone has to create a graphic image of Tex that fits the cover of the flash drive so nobody confuses it with just a regular flash drive.

I hate to be the one that craps on everyone's parade here. I know we all own copies of the games but offering money for copies of the game on a flash drive I am pretty sure is outright illegal. You know, copyright violation and all. It's one thing to trade (which I think is fine but not certain) but the actual act of transferring money from one hand to another for "pirated" software is illegal.
Now that that ugliness is over I too would like to get in on this. I have ISO copies of all my physical disks including Overseer all burned on DVD's. I would LOVE to have them installed on a USB key that I could use in any computer. Is there anyway to post the files needed OTHER than the games themselves online so that everyone can use em? Then all we would have to do in theory is add our own ISOs off of our own disks and then go from there.
I have one question however, how do you cover the drive issue? I mean I physically have up to dive L: already in use on my computer so I am wondering how you worked around that? Or did you just go by the average machine and suggest that it was drive D or E? If not how do you tell it to randomly find the drive? I would definately love to have the games run off a USB drive. NO MORE DISK SWAPPING . . . well I have that already but it still has to access the DVD to play. I would love to have it instantaniously play.

Don't see any problem here. Those who are paypalling money are buying a flash card from the Doc, and while he makes no profit off of it the only possible problem here would be sales tax if sold from and to the same state. Everybody here owns their copies of the game (obviously), and we are all entitled to backup our copies. Not only isn't there anything morally wrong (which is the only thing that truly matters), but there aren't any broken laws either.
