He's my bunny... Buttons!
We actually have 2 bunnies. 1 black Velvet Rex named Bella (she is 3 months old), and the one in the picture is Buttons, a black and silver Velvet Mini-Rex (1.5 months old).

I like his ears... Most bunnies with ears that big are usually floppy...
Will they be coming with you when you make the move or will they be staying with other family members???

Ideally they will be coming with us... but the unfortunate thing is: even though they can come with us to the States, they cannot be taken back into Australia. There is a federal law against the importing of pet rabbits.
So depending on how long I will end up staying over there we will need to decide to either take them with us, or leave them with family. Which kinda puts a damper on the plans as we have both become quite attached to them.

How long do rabbits like those live??? How long will you be here in the states???
That kind of sucks that you can't take them back with you if/when you go...
You could get a Tranquilizer from your Vet here in the States and before you leave to go to Australia you could put them to sleep and then pack them in your luggage as if they were stuffed animals...

And just hope you aren't the victim of one of those Thorough Inspections...
I was one time coming back from out in Montana and they just tore the bag apart, didn't care about nothing inside it, everything was unfolded and just shoved in the bag it was a mess... Luckily I didn't have any Tranquilized pets packed in there...

Actually they can live for up to 10 years. So either way its going to be a bit of an issue. Depending on what oppprtunities are preseted to me over there who knows how long i will be staying.

Wish I could make it an easier decision for you... I've had many pets, I don't know how I would have handled a decision like that...
But I'll tell you this, if you bring them and for whatever reason have to go back before they have lived out their life, I'll be happy to care for them for you...

Baf, I can't believe you are claiming dibs on his bunny already.

You'd better not be planning to make Hasenpfeffer.
He looks so adorable. I'd offer to take them if I didn't already have two cats. We have wild rabbits hopping around our neighborhood. It's very exciting to see one dart across the street every now and then.

Hahaha, okay David.
I am also thrilled so many of your have opted to take care of the bunnies! Except for you freep. Maybe not you.
Anyway here are some more pics.
This is Buttons
Taken about a month ago, so he is a little bigger now
This is Bella
Taken about a month ago as well, and she is a LOT bigger now, might add some more recent ones today when I get back home.

This pic is great... it was a hot day (something like 38) and to stop Bella from getting heat stroke we wrapped her with a damp towel and put some ice packs on her. She absolutely loved it.
How could anyone think of putting such cute things in a stew!

They have got to be the cutest bunnies in the history of Easter.
What species are they? They look nothing like what I usually see in this part of the world.

Hehe thanks Frank.
Bella is a Velvet Rex Rabbit and Buttons is a Velvet Mini-Rex Rabbit. They are renowned for having the softest fur you'll ever feel on any animal. Bella will grow to be around 12 pounds and Buttons will reach about 5 or 6.
Now, a word on their origins: if you were to Google it you will find that most sites have it all wrong. Obviously someone has come up with a cork-and-bull story and everyone has just copied and pasted it into their site. So what you have is a massive propagation of false information on the rabbits' origin. Lucky for you I am able to explain the correct origins which comes from some of the more respected (an non-internet) breeders:
Their origin actually relates back to the late 1800s, where a King (and his breeder) would participate in an annual rabbit show, showcasing these wonderfully soft and beautiful rabbits. But he refused to give away any secrets as to how he was able to breed rabbits with such soft pelt. Failing to identify them as any breed they had seen before it was aptly named the "Rex" rabbit, referring to the "King's rabbits".
So there you go. They are also very smart, we have taught Bella to kiss on cue, and although Buttons has not learnt many skills yet, we point that down to him just being young and mischievous. Speaking of which, about 7 days ago I lost one of my rings and could not find it anywhere. 2 days ago Mel was cleaning Buttons' hutch and found it hidden away at the back of the hutch under his towel. Sneaky little thing!
