I don't get what the fuss is about. At no point in time did they say "We're sorry, but we're closing up shop. Good luck getting your games and thanks for all your moneys."
They did exactly what they were going to do. Granted, the wording could've been better and more of an explanation could have been given beforehand, but nothing happened that they didn't already state in the offset.
Namely - they were changing the site. Not burning it to the ground.

I see nothing changed about it...
I don't really care about what they did, but to shutdown without so much as a word of warning was a bit childish, especially since it was apparently nothing more than an attempt at Publicity...
Stephen Colbert's attempt at a publicity stunt made me think of GOG's poorly executed attempt at a publicity stunt...

The problem was they made it sound like all our purchases would have to be downloaded in a mad rush to ensure we didn't loose them. They played our worst fears for nothing more than a PR Stunt.. That isn't cool!
It had me very worried because I'm at the end of my quota and Civ5 just came out, so having to download all the Tex Murphy games again plus all the other games I bought from them was going to be a very bad thing and it'd cost me money to do in order to get my quota extended.
NOT forking COOL! That's why I was pissed off at them. It was a huge problem for me to work my way around having to backup everything- and I hope that they give us heads up next time they pull something stupid like this so we have enough time to prepare quota for it.
I'm VERY glad they're not gone, but I'm not happy about this whole mess because its made me think what will happen when we actually do have a major problem like this again.
Also:
hahaha

My sentiments exactly. I personally didn't lose anything because I still had my files. It was more about mental anguish than anything else.
I was concerned since they are the only outlet for Tex games these days. If they were gone, we'd have a harder time spreading the word.

well they used the words the service would be closing,
it was pointed out that they could not continue they way they had been going, but as they used the word closing that could only be taken as something final.
didn't worry me if they closed as I had my downloads on dvd disk, if they were steam & I relied on their web page to activate my game well then I would have been pissed.
Same as if big finish games closed shop & I couldn't activate my games.
having the code doesn't matter as the code only works with the original download installer.

Yeah Freep the uncertainty of not knowing what was going to happen.
Life is full of uncertainty and it was upsetting having yet another thing yanked out from underneath me. I guess it's true the only things you can count on are death and taxes.

Like i said before...
I am glad I had not been on the UTM site for a few days and missed this whole mess.
Luckily I burned all my tex games to a dual layered disc =P
It isn't cool that they did this either.

I've got all my games on a Flash Drive... Just plug it in and double click on the game I want to play and it loads right up... Courtesy of DrPaul... Except for Overseer though... Which I did buy and download from GOG... But that is on my Hard Drive that Crashed, hopefully it is recoverable...
But since GOG didn't shutdown, I should be able to re-download it if I have to...
