I agree with Jen that these things can be a pain but at the same time like Jerry I've never noticed any of them post. How can everyone else know that these are real names etc when they've never posted either?

Cheers.

As I am speaking only for myself, I consider this group kind of like friends and family. It bothers me to see people with malicious intent make their mark on the board. It's like some drunk jerks crashing your evening with the buddies.

But that's just my humble opinion. I'd delete every trace of them if I could!!!!

Jen
Ok. I can understand (and agree) that their very existence could be seen as an affront. I just didn't know if there was something more tangible that I was missing out on!

Jerry, it's not the fact that some register and don't post, but the fact that an automated spambot can sign up to a forum and could potentially spam the threads (as some have already done here) in the first place.

The key thing to focus on is preventing spambots from going through the registration process and becoming members. I imagine it would be quite easy to impement and it would save a LOT of headaches and wasted bandwidth in the long run. James mentioned the image code thing (although if it's already on then another series of measures need to be put in place).

Lay down a gauntlet that would be easy for a human to pass through, but would fool a spambots and stop them signing up so easily.

Big Jim Slade? Dead ("Mean Streets"). In the jail ("Overseer"). What an irony! :(
