sry i meant to say, my graphics driver is not WHQL´d, I have a GeForce Go 6600 and you cant get updated 'official' drivers for it

Sorry mate, i've run out of ideas. Try running the game on a 9x machine (with DVD drive obviously).

well i ran msinfo32 and looked at confilcts/sharing under hardware resouces and this is listed next to the realtek AC97 info:


IRQ 17 Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
IRQ 17 Realtek AC'97 Audio


it was the only reference i found for the AC97 there

Is that an add-in PCI wireless card? If so, switch it to another slot. Won't hurt to try.

LOL I know its a laptop, but the BIOS I have is terrible lol, it give me the options for loading of the drives, and compatability for a USB keyboard, but everything else is just info, there is no other options I can change lol.

Damn. I know what you mean.

I've got an Alienware laptop and you'd think they'd at least made SOME effort for configurablility (it's a gaming laptop, for god's sake). Seems to be an annoying trend. It would be even more useful having a comprehensive bios on a laptop due to the fact that you can't just disconnect/remove components that may resolve conflicts (as we can see here).

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY

well I had a bit of brain-wave, I uninstalled dvd express again, then installed my old copy of cyberlink power dvd (i installed the XP version otherwise known as 4.0) and then re-installed dvd express and success I have sound :-) I dont know what component cyberlink installed but its worked and I have sound clear as a bell :-)
