I tryed to run UAKM and PD with the informations Rockefeller gave us but,
when I run tex197 or tex4 with VDMS (after configuring VDMS properties) I have a strange screen with a mosaic of the game that show me that there is a problem. I have the sound but I think the video configurations are bad. Is somebody have a solution to permit me to play these games?
Thanks a lot.

can you take a screenshot of the mosaic and share it? I've never seen this error and it sounds very interesting, I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it...I can PM you my email if you need to share the screenshot that way.

In fact, it is the sreen we have when running UAKM and Pandora in dos mode, without VDMS. I can't print it but it's like a mosaic of the original screen but squares are not in the right order.[/img]

Hey Rockefeller!
I have tried to start up the game exactly like you have described in your downloadable files and the game does work to some extent. But I still have problems playing it. Here is a description of the problems I experience:
1. During the intro where Tex is flipping cards in his hat, the clip does run smoothly, but the sound of Tex' voice stops after a short while, so I never get to hear everything he says. It happens in all video clips where the clip is pretty long. How can I change it so the sound actually does play all the way through the clip?
2. During the clip where Tex is playing with his gun, the sound also disappears right before he throws it out the window - but the sound is also a bit behind, so he moves his hands when he says "Bam Bam" - but the sound is a second or two behind.
3. Finally - after ending the clip in no. 2 with his "I have a feeling this is going to be one of those days" ... the game quits back to Windows with no warning what so ever. How is that?
Apart from the game actually running quite smooth, the above mentioned things are just too annoying for me, and I can't really pay enough attention to the game itself knowing that the game or sound can crash at any time. Any way to get around that?
Edit: My specs are as follows... Intel Pentium 4 - 2.40 GHz, 1,00 GB of RAM, Soundblaster Live!, Radeon 9800 XT graphics

I have almost the exact same problems as you netroam. It is a shame because it runs much smoother than in dosbox in 3d/explore mode.
I also experienced not a stuttering, but a clicking noise behind the audio as well as hiss. This is one area where dosbox is much nicer, except for the occasional high pitched noise jumping into the speech, the sound crystal clear, compared to vdmsound.
I'll list my specs in case it helps: I am running an athlon xp 2500+, with a 6600gt, nforce2 on-board sound, and 2 gigs of ram.
Thanks for any help! I'll keep playing in dosbox, this is a great game no matter what. I'm excited to finally be able to play it.

I am no expert. As I mentioned, the way I have it set up may react differently on different systems. This setup works fine on my system. Maybe it has something to do with the initial installation. I can't remember if I installed with the command prompt or dosbox. Other than that, I would try to make sense of all the config files and try to adopt them to my specific system. Other than that I'm not sure.

It's a pity there isn't a direct way to get around the problems that I experience. It would be awesome if there was a way to make just those slight adjustments to the config files, so the game runs completely smooth without the game crashing the sound or crashing back to windows. Any suggestions are appreciated seeing as how I REALLY wanna play this game again soon

i got sick of stuffing around every time I wanted to play uakm, pandora & overseer so I just put another hard in & installed win 98. Then installed virtual drive for all my game disks & burnt a copy to dvd for safe keeping. Now when I crave tex I just boot to 98 & play. best think I ever did.

Netroam, mine does the same thing with the sound. The dumpouts aren't frequent, but I have to put on subtitles so that I can know what's being said in some of the cutscenes.
I've got the games configured so that I have to disable my video driver (rolling it back to the most basic driver) and restart my computer, but then I can play UAKM and PD endlessly. Running Overseer on DVD has its kick-out points after some cutscenes that I can't get around except to put in the applicable CD before the cutscene starts. It's annoying, but since I don't have the money or (more importantly) the space for another Tex-dedicated system, I just put up with it.

I tried the following site:
http://mypage.iu.edu/~bottesen/UAKM_XP_ ... feller.rar that you have listed in one of your posts, but I keep getting a 404 error.
I'm very interested in trying your method of running UAKM. So, could you please post it again because I can't seem get around the 404 error.
Thank you kindly

WOW! That Access Intro is truly GREAT! Terrific job, rockefeller!!!!
Actually, I just need the settings for the "Advanced VDMSound Properties"; MIDI, AdLib, SoundBlaster, etc.. If you could post those settings then I should be okay.
Thanks again

Advanced - Tabs - Instructions:
*Compatibility - Disable EMS, Enable basic VESA support, Enable low-level CD-ROM support
*MIDI - Disable MIDI Emulation (No Emulation Required)
*AdLib - Disable AdLib Emulation (No Emulation Required)
*SoundBlaster - BasePort:0x220, IRQ:7, 4.05(SB16), 8-bit DMA:1, 16-bit DMA:5
*Joystick - Disable Joystick Emulation (No Emulation Required)
*Performance:
--Check 'Cap DOS timer frequency'
--Check 'Try to reduce CPU usage'
--Turn Usage all the way to 'Low'
***This helps the midi-music play proper
The problem with running UKM in windowsXP like this, however, is that it dumps sound from cutScenes, and goes extremely slow when attempting to travel,
and it crashes every so often. The only thing improved from dosbox really is the smoothness of walking, but that's probably because the game is running super fast.
I would suggest the new dosBox 0.65 - I think it works great with UKM. Just press F12 while in game until the number of cycles reaches 10,000, and the game should run smoothly...
