I've never had a defective pixel issue - ever... And there's a warranty on the monitor, though I've heard they only cover above a certain number of pixels.

I have a space issue and being a web/graphic designer and animator I need my real estate. LCD is really the only option I have. (You ever try to lift a 21" CRT?!?! )

Also, CRTs really bother my eyes. I don't do prepress so the color is good enough for me.

@ michel pronk - my father's sight is really bad, too; can you tell me more about that zoomtext software? There seemed to be a few types of magnifying software and they ranged in price drastically. What's the big deal? Why so expensive and what's the difference between programs?

I worked in a computer store for two and a half years. I'd say at least a quarter of the LCD monitors we put up on display had a pixel defect of some kind (bright or unlit pixels). Probably even more. Don't know if they're better now.

The limit for allowed pixel defects can usually be found in the warranty papers. It differs if the defects are grouped together, or spread out across the display.

The pictures turned out a tiny bit darker than usual... but that is generally the natural lighting in my room. I am more of a mood lighting person.

thats new New Product $595 but i had the 8.0 before so i only needed the upgrede for $199. Mind u this is the version that magnifies and speeks the text on screen the ZoomText Magnifier is new $395 and a Upgrade $149

the first version for windows i had was 7.0 so in fact i only bouth that one new and afhter that only the updates.

But it all depens on how bad his eyesight is mine is well i think good eyesight is called 20/20 i got 2/0 or left eye 6% to 13% vision left right i i cant see anything. the software i use can magnify up to 30+ times makeing letters as big as the screen itself then the built in reader of doc reader can read / speak it out to u or scroll the text in front of u so u can focus on 1 spot and read more easy

the also sell other software at that compeny to easy reading.

U can get a free trial CD for all thair product and thats a good way to test the funktions.

Do get a good video card with at least 128 megs of memory thought zoomtext needs it and if it cant find it it used system memory.

i didnt get this option becouse im from europe and most of the options are not covered by my retailer.

Good gracious! Have you looked into freeware magnifiers? There are a lot available. And free is definitely cheaper than what you're talking about!

To be honest i tryed a few but most gave problems with aplications i use.

and there is the matter of the blind sociaty.

the pc and software are payed for so i dont need to but i do need to go and get tests done to see what i can and cant see and what i can and cant do.

They then decide what i need (most of the time it a long process that takes months)

to give an example when i needed a new version of zoomtext i had to go see a eyedocter a computer specialist (one that knows about what help items sofrware there is for peaple with bad eyesigt) a ergo theropetic dude who then tells me how to sit and use the tools.
a light specialist that determens what lighting i chould have to make it more easy for me to read and work by.
that all stated at the end of 2005 october november.
The new zoomtext was given me around january 2006.
the new pc took untill march aprill.
The lighing will take longer seeing that one light fixture will cost 350 to 400 dollars (i can also get a grant to pay for those) and ill need severel per room.

in short there is a good healt coveridge here i can get alot payed for but it takes a long time to get thing sorted. The good old red tape.

If i had a job i could pay for some things myself and would get alot faster but sadly i made a mistake in schooling and went for computer programing not knowing that my eyesight would get worse alot faster then it did. hence my terible spelling and so on.

Dont get me wrong i didnt have good eyesigt before i started but i more then halfed the last few years and that got me. reading writing is now alot more strainfull on my eyes then it used to be.

Anyways dont want to dragg on and on the end of the story is i got alot of help from alot of places even from peaple on these forums winks at JTOG
