Computer ill-literate that I am, how do I find out what video card is on my Dell? Be specific please. Thanks!

Go to Control Panel, click on System, then Hardware, then Device Manager, then look under Display Adapters. That's where you can see what video card I'm using on my computer. Yours should be able to do the same/similar.
Hope that helps!

If anybody remembers, I believe that there were similar things going on when The Longest Journey came out. It was a beast to run on most computers back in the day as well, if I recall correctly.

Hammerhead wrote:I don't know about your sound card, Jim, but the list of video cards that work with Dreamfall is no joke. If you don't have one that's on the list, you're out of luck without getting a new one.
I wouldn't quite say that. The official list of supported cards doesn't list all the cards that do in fact work, only the ones they are willing to support. People have been running it just fine with GF4 Ti cards (even with 64MB video RAM), as well as Radeon 9000 for instance.
If you're using integrated graphics (usually Intel or SiS) you're out of luck most of the time. Same goes for the GF4 MX. But better than that and most cards will work (the game is quite sensitive to which drivers you've got installed though). You do of course risk running into graphic anomalies, but people have been able to complete the game just fine with the cards I mentioned.

Okay, Hammer, here's what it says:
Intel(R)82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
However, under the menu "Sound, video and game controllers" it says this: Creative SB Live! Series (WDM)
Does that help? Thanks!

Your second line refers to your sound card. Soundblaster live sound is awesome for a laptop and would work great for any game.
Unfortunately, you have an Intel Integrated Graphics "card". One that is not very good at 3D at all.
The system requirements of the game for graphics are...
Video Card*: 3D Hardware Accelerator Card Required
- 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 128 MB with latest drivers
The game's forum has people listing their PC specs and whether or not they can run the game. People are having trouble running the game with Geforce FX 5200's and your graphics are nowhere near as powerful as that. Sorry....
However, if you want to upgrade to a laptop that CAN run the game very well (as well as pretty much any other game on the market today) and is reasonably priced check out here.....

So, the stuff you need cost how much? Approximately! And what kind of 3D card (manufacturer) do you recommend?

As Gunslinger hinted at this wont work with Dreamfall I'm afraid. In fact very few recently released games will run.
The computer might've been new 18 months ago, but the graphics wasn't. Heck it wasn't even very hot when it was released, and that's more than four years ago.
If you're otherwise satisfied with the computer (and it's a desktop computer, not a laptop) you could check if you've got an AGP slot. If you do buying a new graphics card might be a good idea. If you havn't got an AGP slot you pretty much need an entirely new computer (PCI graphics cards just don't cut it).
If you're only interested in Dreamfall, perhaps an Xbox is what you need (Dreamfall is available for the Xbox, as well as PC)?

I've been playing a lot of World of Warcraft on my PC, Guitar Hero on my PS2 and Kirby Canvas Curse on my DS lite.
I also have played Megaman 2 to unhealthy levels

I used to play World of Warcraft, but I didn't know anybody that played it, so stopped. Now I'm in between games.
Just got a new game....

I haven't bought a new adventure game in years, but I was visiting my locall EB and saw this game called Paradise.
Anyone heard of it? It looks pretty amazing. I'll probably start it in the next few days.
Any feedback before I invest a big chunk of my time?

Have not played a game on my PC in over 5 months... ever since getting my new monitor my video card is no longer powerful enough to support games at such high resolutions... in fact, my card is on the fritz, causing my PC to spontaneously shut down whenever is does anything graphically intese like gaming of video playback... need a new one, so in the meantime my PC is free of games.

...oh well, not as if I am missing it though.

First, designed by Benoit Sokal, the ingenious creator of the Syberia games, the visuals should be rewarding and the story line should be interesting. However, read the following review:

Let me know your personal opinion of the game after you played it. Thanks!
