The UK Takeshi's Castle is a bit spliced too to fit the half hour time slot. They mainly cut out some of the dialogue and comedy skits inbetween by the original hosts and just go straight between challenges. Occasionally they do keep in a few of those though but sicne they don't re-dub the dialogue bits are usually cut, except for when the lead host is announcing certain things. It usually starts with the whole climbing up the wall with Takeshi Guards trying to shoot a target on each of the participants (which when shot, will make that person diqualified) and sliding down the other side into the mud. At this point there's quite alot of people.
Then its split into different challenges. Which vary from episode to episode.
Here is a list of the challenges:

It starts off with about 100 or more people but the extreme nature of each challenge soon sends them flying home! And by the end of the show, there are usually at most 8 left or so. Then they have to storm the castle in dodgems or something similar whilst the guards try and shoort their target. The end of the show is always rubbish in my opinion. The guards have too much of an advantage and out of the many many episodes I think the castle was only defeated a few times so you rarely get to see any winners. What makes the show fun is all the challenges up to that point. I don't get how they got so many people on the show each episode to do such crazy stuff when they had little chance of ultimately winning but considering what Japanese gameshows are often like, I guess this was pretty average fair
Japanese gameshows are fantasticly weird by the way.
Look up Kasou Taishou on You Tube:
here or look up Japanese Talent Show: here
It's a talent show, not so unusual right? But wow the extent the contestants go to is amazing!!
Also look up Gaki no Tsukai >here<, the idea is that the contestants must NOT laugh, no matter how ridiculously funny the stuff that happens around them/to them is, they must not laugh, for fear of punishment.
But there's lots of other weird and funny japanese gameshow clips on Youtube. I wish there was a channel with just Japanese gameshows... would be great.
