I caught a snippet about her going into a coma after throat surgery. No offense to anyone aged, but the older you get the harder the recovery can be. Maybe her health just couldn't take the trauma of surgery? How old was she?

I don't know if I really liked her standup humor, but I did like her in Spaceballs. :)

The very same article bit also mentioned something along the lines of her kids suing the physician performing the surgery. Correct me if I am wrong, but don't doctors go over the possible outcomes of serious surgery with the patient (provided they are cognizant and can clearly understand the possible outcomes)?? I don't know all the facts, but it appears that the family is recklessly pursuing a malpractice suit that probably won't stand in a court. Which makes her passing even more sad due to the public parade by her kids.

I believe Joan only had 1 child, her daughter Melissa. What I heard is that some people are looking into her death to see if there is any cause for legal action; not that they're rushing off to court.

Since there are at least 2 independent investigations by authorities, one into her death and another into the clinic where she had her cardiac arrest, I think it would be wise to wait for the results of those before pursuing private litigation.

Like I said, I only caught a small bit about this. So I've not alot of facts and alot of conjecture on my part.

Sorry if it sounded like I was suggesting you should wait. What I meant was I think it would be wise for Joan's family to wait.

I didn't misunderstand you, Chandler, don't worry. I knew you meant them. However, when it comes to this type of topic, I'll try to verify.

We lost Richard Kiel. The actor best known for playing 'Jaws' in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. A bigger Bond villain, there was none.

Yes, just read that on Bing. Interestingly, the article had a picture of him with Britt Eckland. Wonder what their relationship is.

Richard Kiel was one in a million. Funny how many people remember Jaws from Bond more than anything else.

As a kid, I remember watching and actually worrying that Bond was going to kill him. Part of me was rooting for him.

Farewell to the logical one:

In a funny sort of way I think the material world will actually be a better place without him because he'll be able to teach the man upstairs a thing or two about humanity.

This is a landmark moment IMHO. One of the two most central characters from TOS is now gone. Yes, Jimmy Doohan passed in 2005, and Deforest Kelley died way back in 1999, but they just weren't the core that Spock and Kirk were. It's the first falling brick in the eventual end of a generation.

Sadly true, Chandler. I saw this post earlier today, but had a tough time reconciling Nemoy is gone to post anything. I mean, what can I say? I don't think I could find the right words. I used to watch old Star Trek right after Late Night with david Letterman (back when he had alot of hair!) when I was a kid. Would rewatch them over and over again. :)

It's quite a milestone passing - if I may quote a) Leonard Nimoy as b) Spock and c) Courtney James cos she was first with this "I am, and always shall be, your friend."

The one and only Richie Benaud:

He was to cricket commentary what Don Lafontaine was to movie trailers. One of a kind and easily the highlight of all those summers watching cricket on television as a kid. In fact, that's the reason I never went to see the cricket live.

You've never seen a cricket match live. I've never seen a cricket match, period. I know basically nothing about it. What I know (I think) is that there is a guy who throws a ball, a guy who tries to hit the ball, some kind of 'wicket' that I think the guy throwing the ball is trying to hit, and it seems the team that's 'at bat' can stay at bat forever.
