"Tex Murphy - Project Fedora" is now live on Kickstarter.

I made my 520 $ donation. I can't believe we are so close to another Tex Morphy game, and in FMV! I can't stop watching the video, it's really funny and Chandler Ave looks so nice. It's like returning to the past (a wonderful past) and watching Rook was great too.

We have reached 1/3 of the goal and I hope we get further than 100%. We must have an awsome game successful enough to continue on a trilogy. Chris Jones looks fantastic as always.

More than ever, we must keep the faith!
Seems to be confusion over the DRM Free aspect, hope they can address it for those concerned:

It's no dealbreaker for me but I can understand the concern about it. I have games on Steam, one day my internet went bust and I was bored so I thought, hey I'll play that game on Steam I bought. But nope... DRM meant I couldn't play it. :( Likewise I can understand the reasoning that if the old games like UAKM required online activation whenever re-installing it I doubt I'd be able to play it today because of what might happen 15 years later to those servers, just like how the helpline numbers likely don't work anymore or go to a pizza delivery service.

No confusion, there's a FAQ, all games are DRM free.
This means I'll buy the game again from GOG so I can put it on the shelf with its predecessors.
sbenrap wrote:Yup, was waiting to be closer to 150K to nudge that up.
I spent 120$ more than I intended, and my wife will kill me if she finds out... but it's Tex... and it's been 14 YEARS, so yeah I want that beta damn it.

Anyway, you won't see me complaining about daily updates... especially not video ones (hint hint, nudge nudge, no green screen required, a webcam will be fine)...

It's going to be a loooooooong month...
Thanks for pushing it over sbenrap! I'd be all over video updates, but I thought it was silly for that person to imply pledges are based on updates!

Ok, I think I know what my Tex's voice recording reward should be. A relaxation mp3!

A nice chunk of change - thanks Ruben!

I don't know much about it. Even if they get "picked up by Steam" they can still have a DRM Free version on GOG (which has given tex an extended fanbase of potential backers) and elsewhere right? Or am I mistaken? Maybe they will update to state as such. :)

Yeah, I read the FAQ first and then followed the links...
Did I mention the wise/smart parable already? I think I did ;)

Doing a quick check on TPB, I see all the Big Finish games available there, so a lot of help DRM did those...

Even if Steam picks them up, I think the best route to go is to give people a DRM free download and give the Steam key as a bonus (or not at all).

AC, CJ - We are backing you up with all we can, do not punish the backers with any form of DRM, they are not wanted and deter other future backers (just check the GOG forums).
Make it crystal clear in the FAQ - NO DRM, no online activation, no serial (unless MP is involved, but I doubt that :P), and no other shenanigans. Just a setup file and 100% fun.

Once more we trust you to do the right thing as you trusted us to keep the momentum going.
As an anti-piracy measure DRM really is useless it's just an annoyance for the regular user. If someone wants to pirate a game this will not stop them. I'm not gonna lower my pledge, but it kinda leaves a sour taste in my mouth if this is the case. I'm looking forward to their official stance on this and hope there won't be a major backslash if they choose the DRM route. They could offer a DRM-free download to backers however.

I agree, at the very least backers should get it DRM free, as for what happens after the game releases, their call (I still recommend GOG though, they kept the torch going).

Chris mentioned playing Alan Wake on one of his interviews, a game which appeared on GOG a week ago and got an insta-purchase from me for doing so (yes, I got the followup too), I literally had to install the game to believe it was really DRM free (spoiler: yes, it was) and it gives a nice fuzzy feeling knowing I can burn it on some bluray disc and not care about my future computer components, and net connectivity (backward compatibility excluded).
It doesn't really bother me, but I wonder if I'm in the minority - I plan to pay for it, download it, play it, probably keep a backup copy (unless I get a boxed disc version) so why should DRM be an issue?

I agree that they need to keep protection on their software, otherwise one person could buy it for $15 and share it with the other 100,000 of us. I think it only fair that there is some form of copy protection for their intellectual property.

Nice new avatar Demonlawyer. Is there a bigger one somewhere?

Hey guys, can anybody please share a transcription of the whole speech for the pitch video?
I just asked Chris and Aaron permission to make an italian-subbed version of the video and post it on youtube, and if their answer is positive I wanna be sure that I make no mistakes in translating by ear.
I'd really appreciate it, thanks :)

Your backup copy or boxed version will not install without internet access.
You probably don't care about it today, but in the future, when you want to replay the game it might be an issue if the authentication server is long dead (like in 14 years or something...)

If this game comes with DRM, I will simply grab a crack to circumvent it and put it on a DVD together (at least until the GOG version shows up, which will make the crack null and void), I consider this protecting my investment... (same as my DVD-Rs of all older Tex games to avoid the need to touch the original CDs which are quite worn out...)

I can't help but feeling that not releasing the new Tex as a day1 release on GOG is a bit of spitting in the well you drink from though...

Aaron and Chris just told me it's ok to post a subtitled version :)

Ok guys, I'll start working on it but please, pretty pretty please, someone give me a transcription of the script :)
