tex murphy is back in town
I fellow tex fans :)

I recently got back to playing Pandora Directive with Dosbox after looking for old adventure classics to play and have now encountered a strange bug just as I travelled to Roswell on day eight:

When I pick up any new object from this point (at Roswell) and examine them, I get just a blank screen with the "resume" button, no text or audio either.

After reading around a bit it looks like this could be a problem with a corrupt or missing inventory file. But how do I know which one it could be?
First and foremost, Welcome to the Community, do stick around and enjoy many great discussions over in the General Forum...

Now onto your problem...
Are you playing off of the CDs or did you use one of the methods of putting everything onto your Hard Drive??? Could be the file on your CD is corrupt, the only way to fix it would be to get a CD that isn't corrupt... Pandora can be found on ebay or amazon at reasonable prices...

If you aren't strapped for cash, you might consider going over to www.gog.com and purchasing the Tex Murphy games... GOG has all 5 for sale, just click the banner at the top of any page on this website...

Hi Bafitis,

Thanks for the tips - I'm playing off the CDs, so it looks like I'm gonna have to get it off GoG, anyway their prices are more than reasonable. I'm just hoping it isn't a corrupt savegame or anything that is causing it (though I can still examine items I already have in my inventory prior to Roswell without any problems).
Well the thing with Pandora is that Roswell is basically contained all on 1 CD, so while Items obtained elsewhere will be okay, but items from Roswell will be faulty if Disc 4 is faulty, {at least I think Disc 4 was Roswell}...

But yes, buying off of GOG is reasonable, PLUS the money you spend there goes to the Original Creators of Tex and into the Fund for Secret Project "Fedora"...

If you haven't already, you should check out their website www.bigfinishgames.com... This website is the New Company that Aaron Connors and Chris Jones have put together in hopes of bringing back our Beloved P.I...
They have made 2 games which can be purchased directly from their website... 3 Cards To Midnight and 3 Cards To Dead Time... Both are stellar games... They can be related to the Seek and Find style games, but these are much more detailed and have a good storyline in them... I think you'll enjoy them...

Just purchased off GoG, will check in about an hour if that did the trick. I'm thinking it should be easy to transfer the saves, maybe only copying the Game and Players folder? Anyway I can't expect the old CDs to live on forever, so it's great to have a service like GoG :D

I didn't know Chris Jones was still in the business, but it's awesome news to me that he is still working with Aaron. I'm gonna purchase 3 Cars To Midnight from them once I am finished with Tex, and if I like that I will move on to 3 Cards to Dead Time.

This project "Fedora", whatever it is, sounds a lot like it could be the next installment in the Tex series? If that's true, I hope they are still using FMV for characters, not CGI. In any case it's promising news. :D

EDIT: Getting it from GoG fixed my problem, I can now examine the items. I guess it was corrupted inventory files.
Kewl Deal... That's the biggest problem with CDs, the slightest scratch can destroy files and make things a pain... Glad to hear you're up and running again...

As for Chris and Aaron, they worked separated for a few years, but got back together a couple years ago...
As for Tex staying FMV, I think that is up in the air right now... It would cost upwards of 10 Million Dollars to do a Tex in the original format... I'm sure they would love to do it in FMV, but I'm also sure they are exploring all options... Aaron wants to finish Tex as badly as we want to play it...

We just need to keep supporting them and hope they find a way soon...
