The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it
Interesting. I didn't care for Death Proof at all but I loved Planet Terror (especially Cherry Darling.)I didn't care for the Planet Terror, but I liked the Death Proof... I thought it was funny as hell when Kurt Russell started losing at the end of Death Proof and was whining like a little girl...
His car on the other hand was Awesome, I loved that car...
Regarding Death Proof, my interpretation is that the events were chronologically switched. The first scene, with the 1970 Chevy Nova actually occurred after the second scene with the 1969 Dodge Charger. So Stuntman Mike didn't die at the end. The last scene was actually the beginning of Stuntman Mike's rampage. The plot makes more sense this way and it is more consistent with Tarantino's film style which often features time displacement. Also, the Nova was significantly more 'Death Proofed' than the Charger (and was newer), plus there were modern cell phones in the first scene and none in the second - consistent with the first taking place after the second.
I don't think this is actually a correct interpretation, but I like it better this way, so I'm sticking to it.
By the way, which of the two cars did you like so much, the Nova or the Charger?
I saw Get Smart this afternoon. I don't know if many of you remember the original TV series. I was a fan back then. A very funny show.
I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Too often, movies based on old TV series do not honor the memory of the original series. Get Smart (the movie) was nice in that it did a lot of things with the characters that were fresh and new, but it still retained the style and character of the original series. And, of course, it was very funny.

Either way, I just found it Hilarious when he cried like a little bitch when he got his ass beat by 3 girls... lol
Saw Kung Fu Panda and The Hulk tonight...
Panda was pretty fun, I liked it, with it being new I don't want to say too much about it, but Dustin Hoffman was great, as was Jack Black, but I'm a bigger Hoffman fan than I am of Jack Black...
As for the Hulk, I'm not a Norton Fan, but I don't think that matter much as far as the movie goes... If you thought the First one was more Science than Action and didn't care for that, then you aren't gonna like this one any better... If anything, there is more Science than Action in this one than there was in the first one...
A Bit of a Spoiler:
Of course Stan had to show his face in the movie... For maybe 10 seconds... At the beginning Bruce drips blood into a bottle at a manufacturing plant and then there is a report later on of a Gamma Poisoning... Stan is the one who bought the contaminated bottle and got Gamma Poisoning...
You only get to see the Hulk 3 times in the whole Movie and one of those times it is for less than 15 seconds... The first time is mostly a chase seen and the last time is the big fight at the end which wasn't very much of a fight in my opinion...
Just feels like some people don't really know how to make a good movie anymore...

Today, I saw a French comedy film called OSS 117. It is a spoof of the James Bond 007 type adventures. The fellow who plays the 'Bond' character is extremely good. There are many scenes in which you would swear he is the real James Bond.
The movie is quite funny and refreshing, as French comedies usually are. The main character is interesting because you're never quite sure if he's either really stupid or really smart. Somehow, he pulls them both off rather convincingly.
Fun movie.

Dr. Paul, I'd have to agree, I liked Planet Terror but Death Proof simply wasn't that interesting.
My reasons for not caring about Death Proof are simple: it just seemed as if Quentin forgot he was doing a grindhouse movie, as opposed to watch a bunch of chicks shoot the breeze for an hour or so movie. Then the chase scene showed up and he remembered what he was doing, but until then it's kind of stale.

I was pretty much strictly talking about the Car Scenes... I could have given a hoot about the Bar Scene or the Store Scene...
I am puzzled as to why you say the 2nd chase took place before the 1st chase??? It said 14 months later when it went into the 2nd chase...

So have anyone here seen that film called The Good German? Was wondering if it's worth a watch or not.

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I bought the good german immediately after its DVD release.I think the visual aspect is really brilliant and it really looks a lot like the oldschool Film noir. Plus I think George Clooney is perfect for this genre, he´s got a lot of that 50´s aura but contentwise I think it can´t match up with the glory days of Film noir. So i´d say if you´re into film noir i would recommend it because of the atmosphere and stylistic plus the good choice of putting Clooney in there ( Even though his character is written in a rather superficial way) plus Cate Blanchett is always worth watching. In general I´d say it´s a good film, but not a must see.
Bafitis, I didn't actually read what you said about Grindhouse. I was just summarizing what I thought. Death Proof got cool in the middle when he got around to doing his thing, and in the end, but it's hard to say how necessary it was to watch a bunch of girls talk on end, never ending.

I agree with VonGlower. The Good German was a good film and well-worth seeing. But if you like that genre, I'd highly recommend a 2006 German film by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarch called Leben der Anderen, Das. The English title is The LIves of Others.
This is an absolutely stunning film. It takes place in 1984 East Berlin and centers around a secret police agent who is conducting surveillance on a writer suspected of subversion.
The atmosphere is very 'noir', very old-school German and it was one of my favorite movies of 2006.

Shame on me. I still haven´t seen Das Leben der anderen even though anyone who has seen it, tells me it is awesome. And I´m sure it didnt´ win the academy award for best foreign film without reason. But i think it´s gonna be one of the next dvds I´ll buy.
I´ve seen one of the other films that were nominated for best foreign film in the same year though. After the Wedding from Denmark, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Rolf Lassgard, i was very impressed by that one , a sad and touching film with a great cast, definately a film I can give both thumbs up. I bought another film from the same director - susanne bier- starring Mads Mikkelsen as well recently- Open hearts. A really good dogma film.

I watched The Bucket List and Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins... Both very good movies... A word of advice about The Bucket List, all of the previews and whatnot have shown this to be pretty much a strictly funny movie, this is not the case, it has some really deep moments to it... So I just want to give a heads up on that... Roscoe Jenkins was a Hilarious Movie...

Yesterday, I saw a double-feature at the movies. I went to see WALL-E and Wanted
As you know, WALL-E is the latest Pixar movie. So far, Pixar has never disappointed. True to form, WALL-E is quite enjoyable. To the best of my knowledge, it's the first Pixar movie that features live actors. But this is with a slight qualification, because the live actors are not 'live' characters in the movie. They always appear as recorded images on a TV screen. Anyway, Rated G. Take the whole family!
Wanted was pretty good. It had LOTS of action, an interesting plot, including a plot-twist. Much of the action was very Matrix-like. The fighting, the guns, the car chases. But the plot was rather fascinating. It centered around a Fraternity of Assassins which dates back over a thousand years. This fraternity has some core values which are faith-based and, in a sense, the fraternity is sort of a metaphor for religion. Some members of the fraternity abandon their faith and subvert the core principles to their own ends. There's actually a lot to think about in it, if one chooses. Or you can just enjoy it as an action flick. There is plenty of action.
