Only $3000 - Possibilities
"I'm not asking too much, just 4000 or 5000 people willing to give away $3000 getting Zero in return."
$50 dollars is a donation. A lot of fans would even preorder a game that doesn't exist. But what you propose is too unrealistic to even consider. There aren't 5000 rich fans of Tex Murphy around. Nobody can give away that kind of money.
You'd need to ask less money to more people, or more money to less people.
Also: episodic content. You don't necessarily need $12 million. Personally, I'd rather go with a "Pandora Directive Redux" for the new consoles.

Probably if this ever came to be there should be a dropdown for people to select how much they want to donate ranging from 10$ (every little helps) all the way up to thousands. Or an input text box for them to put whatever they want.
I think getting a copy of the game (like a overpriced pre-order) should probably be included too really. A copy of the game to the distributors/wholesalers is probably only physically $10 so it'd be a cheap and easy way of an incentive. That and maybe a thanks in the credits if people want (with an option of real name vs nickname maybe).
And yeah we still only know that $12 million was said in passing during the casual Q & A session, not a cold hard figure. We don't know what 12 million pertains too either. A full-blown commercial PC or DVD game? A console game? A handheld game? A game spanning multiple platforms? Downloadable episodes (Sam & Max style)? Or?
That's why we really need official word on what the options are, how much each would cost, and a breakdown of those costs so people know what their aiming for.

I'm not saying that, I'm not the one who started this thread... But you do Need 12 Million for this Project... AC himself quoted that number... And something tells me that he knows what he is talking about when it comes to his own project... AC also already stated that Tex will NOT be put on any Console, it is a PC Only game...Danda wrote: $50 dollars is a donation. A lot of fans would even preorder a game that doesn't exist. I'm well aware that most people can't afford to just give away 3 grand to something that might not even get completed due to unexpected delays and road blocks... This thread got spun from a couple of comments in another thread...
According to AC he does need 12 Million for a New Tex Adventure... So you argue the numbers with him, I'm just quoting what he has already stated...mr_cyberpunk wrote:you guys a totally blowing that out of proportion, to produce an indie game you don't need millions.
Earlier in this thread I Quoted where AC said he needed a Budget of 12 Million and when he pitched the Project for authorization he was offered a $400,000 Budget... Kind of a Slap in the face, if you ask me...

HELLZ YES! I've been saying all along that more effort should be put into just completing the story rather than try and go ahead and blow your load on a new game that may not happen. Just give me the story for now and I'll be happy...if the game happens, great..if not, at least I have the story finished.

I think to give everyone more incentive for buying a future game AC is holding off on that. But he did promise to get the story out in whatever way possible.
I would rather read the rest of story on the back of a stack of napkins than not at all
But the Radio theatre was awesome so a text/audio adventure with (if anything) still frames or something would be great.

Yes, AC did promise to complete the story one way or another... So at the very least we'll end up with a short story or novel giving us the ending... We all hope for a game or movie or something better... But we'll just have to wait and see...

I still love the idea of finishing off the story via the Radio Theater format...it gave it just a rich feel if you ask me. Very much a throwback to the days of dramatic radio a la the Shadow or the Fugitive. I still love listening to radio shows like A Prairie Home Companion because they are just so enthralling to me. I get lost in the visuals that my mind produces from what I hear.
Side Note** Garrison Keiller from A Prairie Home Companion is speaking at a community college in Madisonville, KY next Thursday...I'm on the waiting list to get tickets..I hope some free up...I'm really wanting to go and possibly meet him.

Maybe so, but I still want to play one more round of Tex... So I'm really, really, hoping for the game breakthrough... Even though it is probably a hopeless dream at this point...

Heck, if Aaron can write it, but does not have the time to produce it, I will produce the radio theatre for them!! Give all the fans here a chance to cameo as well.Sai wrote: I would rather read the rest of story on the back of a stack of napkins than not at all

I'll play Louie... I'd love to do the Tex Part, but I'm sure there are better people at it than me, so I'll just sit there and ask people if they want "Fried Brains"...
Though I think I could do a Good Mac Malden as well...

I just stumbled across the following site and thought I'd mention it on the forum here as it reminded me of this discussion. I still think confirmation from AC as to the total he would need and to get official support from the creators would be best. But anyway just putting this link forward, some people seem to of raised $1000s of dollars through group efforts using this site's payment system:
http://www.fundable.com
Basically, its free to start up a collection (aside from the 7% fee if the collection is successful). You don't pay anything unless the collection reaches a certain amount that the collection creator sets. So if it doesnt reach the desired amount, no one has to pay anything and there is no loss for anyone.
As the main page says, some have used it to gauge interest in development of a new game or creative project (e.g. short films), like this one:
http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/gr ... 930100945/
I had a quick browse and some people there are trying to raise figures like $22,000 for moving to different countries and the like. I don't know if they'll get it but its there. This one managed to raise over $9000 at any rate:
http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/gr ... 674277169/
Note: As their FAQ says, pledges/donations are gained through word of mouth, promotion etc. Its not really a site for random visitors to pledge money although that might happen too.
I came across it because apparently some people use it split up the cost of buying a yearly subscription for certain stuff and the like.

AC did say how much he needed in another Thread... And AC Said the amount was 12 Million and he was only granted a 400,000 Budget...
And with Inflation and the way prices go up, I'm willing to bet that they would need around 15 Million at this point if not more...

Yeah I know, but that was that project and also a figure brought up in conversation to fans but not really anything solid or set in stone. I don't think it can be taken for granted that such a figure will be required for every project as it really depends on a lot of different factors. Plus the fan community wouldn't necessarily have to raise the money for the total cost of the entire project. If anything it could be merely used to gauge interest and support, kind of like a petition but when it involves money (which would act as payment towards 'startup costs') publishing companies probably would take it more seriously.
If any kind of fundraising was done though there would need to be official discussion from the creators is what I mean. Doesn't matter what was said previously in passing on the subject. There would need to be discussion on a new project and what that might cost, which could be more or less depending on the expectations etc. Some here are happy with something small whilst others will only settle for everything with a cherry on top. So what could be done is, set up a collection for a huge figure, if it isnt reached noone pays anything and the amount of interest is gauged. After, set up a smaller collection for a smaller project, many ideas for such a project has been passed around by AC etc. and would have much lower costs. Just an idea.
