Pandora with Dosbox

Thanks and will do.
Hope you get well soon nondaj.
A sansGUI interface is one that does not have the small features called "Windows". The term comes from the French word sans, meaning "without".

SansGUI's are more typically used in Unix-like Operating Systems. The conventional wisdom is that a GUI (Grapical User Interface) help guide the casual computer user to perform routine tasks with Point and Click simplicity. SansGUI's have acquired considerable acceptance for users accustomed to the CLI (Command Line Interface).
On my feet enough to try your directions now re Pandora. Keep your fingers crossed - keep you posted as to how I do:)

Not sure if everything is OK - some indication I had a mini stroke so anxiously awaiting MRI report from neurologist this coming Thursday. So getting involved with Tex to take my mind off my worries and negative thoughts.

Have followed your direction to the letter and am down to dos screen with this cursor:

Z:\>C:

got info I had to mount drive C not clear what that meant but fiddled around until I got the cursor below (so guess I mounted drive C)

C:\ and here I am stuck. Cannot get C:\cd pandora to work; keep getting error message that 'cannot change to Pandora (no reason given)

Can advise?
Sorry to hear about your woes, I'll refrain from talking about it to keep your mind from it... My thoughts are with you, as are most/all of those from the board I'm sure...

I have no idea why it would give you that error about not being able to change to Pandora... If you didn't have the File Folder on your C: drive it would have told you that it didn't exist, so it knows it's there... At least I'm assuming it knows it's there...

Those are pretty much the Exact steps that I used and it worked just fine... You have basically the same setup as I do, should be running just fine...

I'm very sorry, but after a complete reinstall of all the latest programs, I'm fresh out of ideas...

Hopefully SansGUI can help you or if Nilo surfs in, he'll have some ideas...

I wish I were more knowledgeable with the inner workings of these programs...

You have done a fine job in helping me and maybe this will give you some clues - when I tried to download the Pandora files from Nilo it came in as a Winrar file rather than Winzip. But I got no further with it then either.

Also I have the discs of Pandora D. But when I try to use them it says go install in Dos. But am completely lost there.

When I went to Nilo and downloaded Pandora in Dosbox 0.72 it came in in winzip. I took it from there and got as far as I did like I just laid out. Will keep on fiddling with the darn thing until I luck out. Persistence pays off!

Thanks for kind thoughts re my present anxious state.
Winrar is pretty much the Same as Winzip, it just uses some minor differences when it compacts the files... I'm sorry, I forgot the one file was a Winrar...

You can get it here...

http://winrar.d0wnloadz.net/

You get an Installer File... And for the life of my, it's only been a little over 2 months, but I can't remember exactly what all you do with it... Open it using the Winrar and then just extract it and run the Installer program... Being an Install file, it should install to the place it needs to, but I can't remember without completely running everything again...

It's not Freeware, but you can use it for like 40 days... I haven't done it, but after the 40 days if you are still using Winrar to open up programs you download, you can probably uninstall it, delete it and then just redownload it and should be able to use it for another 40 days...

Hey hey! Almost home! Been persisting and found another set of instructions from heavens know who - might have been Nilo some time ago; have them typed on paper. Finally got into the game but am at the swap disc screen and despite my changing the config file to my drives E and F - the little swap screen keeps asking for a disc in Drive D!

Any ideas how to get around this? Sorry to be ragging you here on and on:) But getting excited now at my seeming success when in reality I know little of what I am doing - just reading this instruction and that one, then following my nose.

Can't get too excited - might have a stroke here on the spot LOL.
I had a small problem with the Disk Swapping as well... Wasn't sure what the problem was, but if you hit ALT-TAB to go out to windows and then click on the DosBox window to bring the game back up and then the Disk Swapping usually comes back and starts working... I can't explain it and it doesn't always happen, and sometimes {rarely for me} it will lock you up and you need to reboot, but with Pandora's Auto-Restore it usually isn't a problem as far as the game goes... Can just be a little annoying sometimes...

I hope you do get it running... If not you'll have to wait until tomorrow to get another response from me, because it's after 3:30am here and I'm heading to bed... lol

Good Luck...

Must say you sure hang in there re this board - I live on the West coast so you must be on the East coast. Tomorrow holiday and you can sleep in! Me too as it is getting late here also. Not up to trying anymore so will mull over your suggestion and give it a go tomorrow.

This has been one experience!:)

Could you please post what is typed under [autoexec] in the config file?

I do a lot of work on the computer... I have a few websites that I just leave open while I work and the message board happens to be one of them... I'm not actively stalking the board for 8 hours... Sometimes I may not even be here, but I leave the computer on, so it seems I am...

I don't really know what it means to sleep in... I get up no later than 7am without an alarm... Most times I'm getting up between 6am and 6:30am... But during a normal week I'm not at home for more than 30 to 40 minutes before I'm headed out the door... Gives me enough time to shower and dress, then I'm gone...

Aahhh, SansGUI has joined us... You should be able to get some answers now... lol Sans knows a thing or 2 about these types of files, hehehe, that's putting it mildly...

Copy N Paste the Config File contents, you should be able to open it with Notepad... Don't change anything yet, just Copy N Paste it... You should find this File in your Pandora Folder on your C: Drive... Just double click it to open it, then right click anywhere inside the Notepad that opened and select the option "Select All"... Right Click again and select the option "Copy" and then paste it in your next post, by right clicking and selecting "Paste"...

Not clear why I have two files and in the first one where it says disk1=D, I had changed that once to E but see that it reverted back. So will make E again and then try to enter the game.
Am into game and playing away but having tough time. The game freezes every whipstitch and so can't move very much. Also when the game started it came up with message to insert disc 2 - did so but then was not able to start at the beginning of the game.

So will play around with Pandora a bit to see if I can resolve these issues. Some of the problems might be because of having 2 Pandora files in Drive C? First I downloaded the Pandora game and then was instructed to download the file Pandora forDosbox 0.72. So I may have goofed here and that is causing problems?

But at least into the game - big accomplishment here:)
