Three Cards To Midnight - Teaser Trailer
Though the game is named Three Cards To Midnight, I'm not entirely convinced that the game will revolve around Cards... I could be wrong, I have no idea what the game mechanics are going to be... I just didn't get that from the Trailer myself... Yes the cards will play a part, maybe a main part, but I don't think it will be the Center of the story...lestat666 wrote:This is probably just from my negative experiences of games that are based around cards being the central part of how the game works.
Alas we will have to wait for more info from AC and/or CJ, or James if they choose to pass the info through him...

You know, now that you mention it, character creation revolving around tarot cards could be pretty sweet if done properly. Somehow I don't think it's the case here and, like Baf said, the cards most likely tie in with the story, but I can imagine some pretty nice and original RPG/adventure revolving around tarot and other less traditional occult for the genre. Throw in dream haunting/interpretation à la Baldurs Gate 2 and put it in a modern setting and you're all in for some nice horror/thriller.
Hmmmm...

I tried to figure out who were behind the voices.
"55: Michael York (sounds like him but...can't be him: it's a low budget game!)
1"20: voice of the Colonel (can't remember his name, it's almost a certitude)
and Chris Jones of course... "voodoo kind of stuff"

Well....
Its good to hear Chris's voice in a game again!
Although if the game is centered around tarot then I will have to pass... Bummer

Are you religiously against it? I am myself, but I'm more intellectually bored by it. My friends are into it, but I think: "laaaaaame!" Am I saying that the Tarot's inclusion in this game is lame too? Well... yeah. But I can forgive!McDonis wrote: Although if the game is centered around tarot then I will have to pass... Bummer
Maybe this would be more fun:

Here's a thought. How about not judging it into you find out more?? If you don't remember, SLC is in the heart of Mormon country. Chris doesn't drink or smoke. UAKM at it's base was about an evil, Nazi like cult trying to destroy the earth, saved by an unlikely hero. What do you think they're planning?
Sorry to be cranky here, but goodness sakes, what do you make them out to be???
How about a little trust???
.......end crankiness...........

No need to be cranky. This game is going to be cool as all heck. I just know it.Jen wrote: Sorry to be cranky here, but goodness sakes, what do you make them out to be???

But that doesn't change how lame Tarot reading is. And I'm not even being religious about it; that's the little atheist in me talking. I've watched my friends get readings and actually take it seriously, from some person at table in a bar for $5. What a joke. White trash hijacked the Tarot and robbed it of its class. Someone needs to steal it back!
Put it into a universe where there is actual suspense and mood and meaning, however, and the Tarot probably can get its mojo back. I reckon AC can do it.
Really? That's awesome. What a guy!Chris doesn't drink or smoke.
I'm not sure where you're getting the lame part. Anything made improperly or filled with cliché will be lame, but rejecting a concept based on previous butchered attempts is pretty damn silly. Tarot in fiction was always a tool to create a certain mood, as most adventure and rpg games rely on mystery, sorcery, unexplained events and irrational fears. If tarot HAS a place in our culture, it certainly is in fiction, where it can thrive on the uncertainties and imagination of the player/reader/viewer.
After playing Pandora I didn't go around hunting for government conspiracies and Alien spacecrafts, but outside of the pure entertainment it provides, the fun element I took with me was the "what if" factor, and it's just as true for witchcraft, deities or tarot.
"I want to believe" pretty much sums up my love of the X Files series and explains a whole lot about the psychology of fiction.
A bit off topic, tooth ache keeping me awake last night my mind got all boiling again with this idea of character generation via tarot and once again I've got this huge game story and mechanic developed in my head and no means to realise it. Frustrations of a lifetime

I talked to my editors at IGN and I got the go ahead for a feature. I'm personally a big fan, and while I'm pretty low on the IGN totem pole, I'm going to do what I can to help this game get some buzz going.tathorp wrote:James, CJ, AC, and everyone......wouldn't hurt to start generating some buzz at http://www.adventuregamers.com and http://www.justadventure.com
As well as some of the gaming podcasters like pcgamer, IGN, and GFW. Thoughts????
I talked to a couple guys at game spot and I'm going to send them an email when the web site goes live. The IGN/Game Spot system is hard to manipulate from inside so no worries if you're unsuccesful in doing more than a feature article that doesn't even get highlighted. Just find the guys there who remember the Tex games and loved them. You'll find them and find the biggest one there (by name not fandom) and make sure they're excited and set to review the upcoming game. That is the best way to go about it.Frogacuda wrote:I talked to my editors at IGN and I got the go ahead for a feature. Any pre-release PR is good PR. A great review and people at the sites playing the game and loving it means a shot for awards at the end of the year. The game coming out in November puts it in a spot where it could win some things at year's end and get the extra push it needs to sell some copies.
Hugs jen just becouse shes a bit cranky OKOK just so i feel better too.
