How many chicks do we have?

I hope so. I love Cheslee and it would break my heart if anything happened to her. Yeah the first idea is too far fetched. As far as I can tell mutations only appear to be physical abnormalities and nothing like superpowers in Heroes and X-men.

But you brought up a good point about lack of newsstands. Would there be newsstands in the Tex future? Newspapers and magazines are going out of business as we shift to more online content. Even books are slowly being replaced. By Tex's time, surely everything would digital and no paper would be left. Maybe I'm over analyzing.

Yeah and Tex says the same thing about his Youth being mostly controlled by Cyberspace, such as Sesame Street Interactive, but maybe the Big War threw us back a little bit...
Maybe some key places were devastated which caused us to go back in time a little bit when it came to certain technologies...

I mean they still had those Newspaper vending machines, the one on Chandler Ave just happen to break a week after Chelsea moved in...

If Newsstands would be obsolete by 2043, that would explain why there is a Newsstand on Chandler Avenue. The old city, dregs of society, the Ritz's former place among the first rate hotels but now run by a slug named Nilo who is as run down as the hotel he manages....yeah, this might be the only place in S.F. you could find a Newsstand.
"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
As much sense as your post makes Jim and most of it I would agree with, I just can't see Factories and Printing Presses remaining in operation just for One Newsstand...
So where would her inventory come from???

And does Chelsea come from a wealthy family???
How does she afford that nice apartment operating a Newsstand in a place like Chandler Ave???

Yes I noticed that too. Cheslee's place looks a lot nicer than Tex's place even assuming she can decorate better than him. She never seems to have trouble making ends meet even though we never see anybody else on Chandler Avenue besides us.

I mean if we assume Tex, Rook, Louie, and whoever is running the Electronics shop are all buying papers from her that's still not a very large clientele to keep a newsstand in operation. She must have some money stashed away or how else could she have afforded to take so much time off in Pandora to go to New Mexico and not work for a while.

Either that or Cheslee is secretly running drugs or guns on the side.

I can't picture her as a drug dealer. Guns, however, as we all know, are not hard to come by on Chandler Ave.

I mean they practically throw them out the windows there!

i don't think it was intended for us to try & work out why chelsea lived in a nice apartment, we were just meant to the play the game. who would ever have thought that a bunch of us would be sitting here talking about a 10yr old game.

trouble is there has never been a game that has come close to tex murphy & I am confident they will be none in the future either. (unless if comes from the aaron & chris.)

tex murphy is back in town
I agree Lynne. I feel CJ and AC have ruined me for all other game developers.

The other day I offered to email a customer an important document for her perusal. She informed that she does not even own a computer! Her and hubby are in their 40's and have chosen to "opt out" on new technology. We all may be surprised as to the number of people who do not have nor do they ever want a computer, internet, XBox, PS3 or even a WII (that's "wee", not world war II).

My point? There's nothing like sitting by a roasting fire of cedar logs nestled with a cup of Irish coffee and reading a good book. Even Jean Luc Picard and Captain Kirk have done so. Ergo, will there ever come a time when books, mags, periodicals, etc. are not available? I don't know about you, but if I stare too long at a computer screen trying to read a good story, my eyes start to go fuzzy, a krick forms in my neck, and I get a headache.

As for Chelsee living in a nice apartment from proceeds gleaned from Newsstand sales, well, we could have a lot of fun with that enigma.

Fred - too funny, but good explanation.

Good points Jim and I do agree. There is nothing like wrapping yourself in a comfy blanket with your favorite book. I love my Kindle but it's just not as good and the sensation of flipping pages and the smell of the paper. I'll always prefer the real thing.

But wow no computers in the house? That's just sounds so crazy to me. I mean even as a kid I had a Commodore 64. Today I've only got one computer and my husband has about 4 not including our blackberries.

Maybe Chelsea is selling something else out there on the street???

No, No, No, I should be tarred and feathered just for thinking something like that, not to mention gutted and beheaded...

As for Computers... I've had one since I was 6 years old, my father brought it home and I have had one ever since... Longest I've gone without a computer is maybe 3 or 4 days, {not counting vacations}...

Shame on you for thinking such evil thoughts about Cheslee. She's a nice girl.

But wait how about this theory. Suppose Cheslee does come from a wealthy family. I recall a couple of references to Faberge eggs in Overseer. Maybe the point of the attack at the end was to get Cheslee and not Tex?! Maybe she has something to do with Faberge eggs?

I'll get the tar hot if Fred will gather the feathers. j/k

It's fun to speculate on things like this Chelsee/Newsstand issue.

Oh don't worry. Fred has feathers to spare!
