Dcotor Who Journey
That's funny Freep. I remember when Colin Baker came onto the scene. It hated him so much for replacing my favorite Peter Davison. I don't think I ever forgave him.
I think the Doctor I'm most angry at is Paul Mcgaan. What a waste of a regeneration. They never should have attempted to move Doctor Who to the US. Doctor Who is so solidly a British show. It was wrong for them to even think such a crazy thing.

Just finished watching "Beast Below". I've got to say I was not impressed. It was a very slow paced episode. The lead into the next episode with Winston Churchill was funny. "Which Prime Minister? The British one. Which British one?"
I felt that part when they ended up in the mouth reminded me a bit too much of the scene in Star Wars when they fall down the trash shoot. I did enjoy Liz 10. Good name. That was a silly joke about so much for the Virgin Queen.

Watched The Beast Below tonight. I know this is early days for this series and Doctor, but this could be the strongest season yet. Another strong episode to follow off the back of the stunning debut. What i'm really liking is the gloomier and more mature story telling which has placed the sonic screwdriver, camp humour and spectacle as secondary to the character development. One thing that really irked me in the previous few years is the number of situations that were resolved with the sonic screw driver. Already, it is becoming more of a bona fide tool than a magic wand that the Doctor waves about. The sonic screwdriver actually has more meaning, as do the characters. They're far more interesting but also mannered which adds to their depth. I also don't mind that characters are not dying anywhere near as frequently as the previous years. For me it's adding to the suspense of the show. I anticipate that when a major character dies, it will serve a purpose that is intregal to the story and will have some impact.
It's also interesting to see how many people remark that the current series is pitching to the younger audience. Thankfully, I honestly couldn't disagree more after watching tonight's episode given the complexity of the plot. For me, everything came together in the last ten minutes. Up until that point, it was truly mind boggling. I can't imagine how this is for someone below ten, the writing truly is quite intelligent, potent and challenging which is everything that i've wanted since 2005. I'm delighted to see that they're playing down to the younger demographic a lot less.
The only thing that didn't make sense, which was very briefly touched on, were the glasses of water. What was their purpose and why were they there?
Other than that, brilliant. Looking forward to next week

The glasses of water were described as a way to detect there were no engines on board. No engines rumbling away, no water rippling in the glass.
Why the queen had so many glasses and viewed them as a sign of the Doctor's coming, however, I don't know.
What I wanna know is - What's up with that perpetual crack? At the end of every episode, the same crack in the wall appears. Or should I say, crack in the universe!

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
Fred,
No doubt the perpetual crack is similar to the ongoing reference to the bad wolf in series 1 with Christopher Eccleston. They are trying to give you hints at their story arc. Prisoner 0 also remarked to the Doctor that it knew about the crack as well. So no doubt we'll hear more about it later. My guess it's something universe ending that once again the Doctor will resolve but maybe they are hinting that the Doctor might be the cause of the crack.
Yeah I agree that the glass of water bit was kind of ridiculous. One glass of water would have been sufficient for the Queen. What gets me is why the Doctor felt the need to check for engines in the first place. Is he so used to the hum of space engines he noticed the silence on the ship right away?

Just watched Victory of the Daleks. Seemed like a let down of an ending. But very disturbing Amy didn't recognize them. Apparently they've already altered history for Amy's timeline.
Hmm so if those Daleks were inferior, they weren't the ones created by Davros that we saw in Stolen Earth/Journey's End. Which set of Daleks were they then?

Just got back from watching Victory. But, I thought this week's episode was the weakest of the season so far. It actually ended up bringing back some of the silliness that I disliked about the RTD era. There was a little too much plot convenience too for my liking. In this case I refer to the bomb sequence and also the Doctor's chatter on the Dalek ship to avoid extermination. The latter I especially feel is something that is getting quite old. Compared to the mature tone of the previous two episodes, this one felt like it was more for the younger audiences. But next week's episode looks like a totally different ball game.
Also, I think I have figured out what the cracks represent
SPOILERS BELOW
Amy has no recollection of the Daleks. Given that the crack has appeared in every part of the Doctor's journey, is it possible he has fallen through a crack between universes and ended up in an alternate Earth where there was no invasion?

Now that you guys finally have gotten to see the Victory for the Daleks episode, I see you have a very similar reaction I did when I saw it. Hopefully now my previous post makes a little more sense.
As for the next two episodes (A Time of Angels & Flesh and Stone), they are pretty good. So it looks as if "Victory" was a fluke.
In Time of Angels, they explain why the Tardis makes that signature sound when it disappears and appears (or lands and takes off, if you prefer). I don't want to give anything away but it is quite amusing.
One thing I did notice about the new episodes though is that I believe Steven Moffat (the writer) may have originally wrote Amy Pond's (the companion) lines with the Donna Noble character in mind. Some of her lines fall a little flat but if you imagine Catherine Tate delivering them it would be very funny.
I say this because Steven Moffat wrote several of the episodes in series 4 when Catherine Tate was the companion and, since some of those episodes directly tie in with these new ones, I imagine he had it mostly written well before shooting began.
Hopefully they flesh out Amy's character better.

Just saw Time of Angels. That's interesting so Matt Smith isn't River Song's Doctor either. Her doctor is sometime in the future what we don't know about. All we know is that he's older.
She said she didn't want to go to prison again. That's interesting. I don't supposed they might be implying she's the Rani do you think? I thought it was very interesting she sent the message in Old Gallifreyan. How would she have know it? Is she the Rani? Maybe Romana? Is Amy's guess of future wife true? I just have questions.
I would like to know why the Angels felt the need to kill 3 guys. If they needed a voice to speak for them, one would have been sufficient. Why did they kill 3 instead sending them into the past?

Apparently, it seems all of the Doctor's incarnations have visited River Song at one time or another. At least that's what they seem to imply.
As for the show itself, it's gotten a complete makeover. It's got new strengths and weaknesses, and I'm merely enjoying it for what it is, without comparing it to it's predecessor.
