Curse Microsoft again!
Okay, follow.Demonlawyer wrote: If Xboxes are souped up PCs why don't they release Amped and others on the PC as well? or would that defeat the object of investing in a games console?
Early in the Playstation's lifestyle, the N64 is getting ready to debut. Consoles have just hit another popularity hurdle and the world is looking at them with a new intent as a viable gaming platform. Bill Gates goes very public about how PCs are gonna be much better for gaming in about two or three years. He's very dismissive and he says Microsoft WILL NEVER get involved.
Zoom to a few years after that. Gates is wearing tight leather pants and debuting the Xbox, buying up companies and yanking material from PC development so he has exclusives and EVERYBODY has to buy his @$#&ing console that he said he'd never make.
So yeah, porting stuff over to the PC would be really easy, but it wouldn't make sense in that whole "world domination" scheme of things.
As for the Baldur's Gate comment, it's unfortunate that they don't make games like that anymore. After interplay shut down Black Isle, the former employees disbanded, some attatching themselves to groups such as...
Bioware: Known for making the game, Neverwinter Nights. Similar gameplay, but more of a dungean crawler. Also made Knights of the Old Republic. Similar veign, but less tactical.
Obsidian: Known for Knights of the Old Republic 2. They're now working on Neverwinter Nights 2.
And as for other companies look to...
Bethesda: Known for the Elder Scrolls series. Morrowind was crap, but Oblivion might be nice. They're also doing Fallout 3. Who knows how that'll turn out.
Irrational Games: Known for Freedom Force and it's sequel, Freedom Force Vs. The Third Reich. Employees formerly worked on such projects as Theif and System Shock 2. The FF games have a similar gameplay aspect to the Baldur's Gate series, with more action and comic book types leading the story.

Win a game at any cost? I must admit I do look up bits when I get stuck - we all want to get to the end of the game, but doesn't that spoil half the fun?
I'd like to think the hero won the game because I solved the problems, or in a PvP game, I'd want to think that I outsmarted my opponent, rather than beat him by cheating.
Saying that, the fact the Tex games had a hint guide was brilliant - and I think that helps them do well today - you know if you get stuck you don't have to walk away from the game and never know what happened.

Demonlawyer, please, don't get me wrong: I CAN win a game without Official Strategy Guide. I have the russian and english versions of "TES3:Morrowind/Tribunal/Bloodmoon". I know russian language and english language (not so good, but enough for computer games). But I want to win a game PERFECTLY. Complete every side-quest, visit all locations, kill all bad guys, etc.
Few examples.
Long time ago, I played "Betrayal at Krondor", "Betrayal in Antara" and "Return to Krondor". I completed these games without hints or cheats.
Later I bought and read Officiall Strategy Guides for these games. I have understood, that I missed many intersting moments. Now, I am going to replay these games and complete them PERFECTLY.
Now, Demonlawyer, did you understend me? My goal is PERFECT victory.

Alex, I'm much the same way. I would very much like to play a game through once, enjoy the experience, exercise my brain. But, if I get stuck, for an annoying amount of time, i.e. I've stopped having fun, I will look something up. Then, the second time, I'll use any resource necessary to get everything possible. I too like the concept of doing everything the game has to offer; it's just fun.

Alex, thanks for the help but i won't be needing a strategy guide.
What i meant by "This will take up a lot of my time" is that Morrowind looks to a be a huge game and i'll be spending a lot of time playing it. I've been advancing in the thieves guild and having a great time playing the game in general.
