Will you get Windows Visa in later in 2006?
I love it when any of us give an opinion on something here. It can so easily get misread or fall into a riot.
Personally I thought James' first comment about upgrading to Windows Vista as it was better than XP made no comment to taking ideas from other OSs, but I only skim read the whole thing. If it's good it's good, if it's not it's not.
Anyway, getting back to the point of the thread, it'll be interesting to see what happens. My Mum bought a PC when XP was released and while it ran the OS, it clearly needed an upgrade as soon as practicable. Waiting does seem like a better option, but when the fanfares are going are people really going to think 'nah, I'll wait six months'? It'll be interesting.
Personally, XP works and I'll probably stick with it. The one thing I do remember is Microsoft said they'd make it backward compatible so all the old DOS games should work again. I'll believe that when I see it, but I hope they do manage it.

Seems like microsoft has been saying that about every windows operating system haven't they? I think they've been getting better about heading towards better compatibility, yet they still have a long way to go.Demonlawyer wrote:Personally, XP works and I'll probably stick with it. To tell the truth, about a week ago I gave up and now I have a system with Windows 95 OSR2 on it:Demonlawyer wrote:The only thing I notice is that our beloved Tex no longer works so it feels like they're going backwards to me.
Abit BM6 (Intel 440BX chipset)
Intel Pentium III-S 1.4GHz (via socket adapter)
512mb 133MHz SDRAM
40GB Maxtor Hard Drive
Voodoo5 5500 AGP video card
Soundblaster AWE32 + Yamaha DB50XG (Port 300)
Roland MPU-IPC-T (FULLY MPU-401 compatible card) and attached SC-88VL Sound Canvas (for general midi written for the SC) OR an MT-32 and CM-32L for older games.
This system is also used to run games like Overseer and Trespasser in 95 as they don't get on too well with NT OSs at all.
My other, more modern system:
BCM BC875PLG (Intel i875 chipset)
Intel Pentium 4 3GHz
2GB DDR400 RAM
250GB Western Digital hard drive
Geforce 6800GT AGP video card
Onboard Realtek AC'97 codec (good enough for Windows but I miss MIDI)
I usually use the new system for the Internet and modern games, and the older one for games made before 1999 or so. I found the newer P4 board, while it does have an ISA slot, just isn't compatible enough (weird lockups, timing issues) and I wanted the extra ISA slot the BM6 offers for the Roland stuff.
Everything you ned to know should be outlined here:Harry of Brooklyn wrote:Can anyone outline for me the most important advances MS is promising in Windows Vista? I've had no problem with XP, but I'm not a computer professional either.
Thanks,
