Care to phonetically spell it out Fred, so we can get an idea?
Matt
I don't know how, to be honest. There is no English equivalent of the sound. Norwegian is weird that way, I guess.
Bjorn knows what I'm talking about, though. Maybe he knows a way? Well? Do ya, punk?

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
I saw the Swedish movie, Let The Right One In and I know that some of the sounds are similar to Norwegian as they are both Scandinavian countries, even though the languages are different.
What is funny is that when I hear my youngest daughter babble, I swear, some of the sounds are similar. Obviously it is incoherent babble, but her babble sounds are not the typical goo gaga type.
They have a lot of vowel sounds running into each other, rather than consonants.
You kind of have to hear it to know what I am talking about.
I think we need a recording of the proper way to say your name =)

Ha! If you get me the recording I'll throw it up on the next episode with a piece of the tape from this last one.lestat666 wrote:... I think we need a recording of the proper way to say your name =)
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I never in a million years thought I'd land Tex Murphy on our show (let alone TWICE). He's a real stand up guy that Chris Jones.
Dig it oldschool? Check out RetroNick.com for articles, retrospectives, and our weekly podcast. It's all here, at http://www.retronick.com.
Try using Google Translate. Remember to set it to Norwegian, though. It's close enough.
My name, translated, means either bows (plural of bow) arches, arcs (plural), loops or curves. Also, apparently, this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buer_%28demon%29

It's be easier to teach a donkey to do backflips than to teach an american how to pronounce your last name Fred, but I'm sure it'd be just as entertaining, so let be give it a go.Fred Buer wrote:I don't know how, to be honest. Okay, american, pronounce the word "brewer", in your head. Now, pronounce it again, without the "r". Now you're saying "booer", as in a person who boos. But you're pronouncing the "r" wrong - you have to trill it. How to do that? Think of the name "Eddie". Think of the way you pronounce the "Edd" part. No replace that sound with the "er" from "booer" with that. Now you're saying "boo-edd". Now, you're almost there, but you're pronouncing the "boo" part wrong. You're saying "boo" like a ghost. Totally wrong. Replace the double "o" in "boo" with the sound you make when you see someone eat a booger, namely "ew". So now we have "b-ew-edd". "B-ew-edd". Fred B-Ew-Edd. Got it? Good.
