Thanks much. It worked out well with dosBox 0.65.

I tried the following site: http://mypage.iu.edu/~bottesen/UAKM_XP_ ... feller.rar that you have listed in one of your posts, but I keep getting a 404 error.

I'm very interested in trying your method of running UAKM. So, could you please post it again because I can't seem get around the 404 error.

Thank you kindly :)

Me too. I just back into wanting to play this game again having played Overseer for the first time and it makes me sad it doesn't run in XP. I don't really want to run dosbox because it runs like a dog on my computer (which is no slouch, it's just dodgy software).
It should be up again now, here:

I must warn that there were complaints regarding loss of sound during movie and sound clips, and extreme slowness during travelling.

I recommend trying dosBox 0.65...if UKM runs sluggish it could be because you havent increased the number of dosBox Cycles while in game. Once in game while still in window mode, press CTRL-F12 Until 'cycles' on the top of the window reads about 12,000. The game should run pretty smoothly on this setting. Alt-Enter then gives you full screen, CTRL-F11 slows down the number of cycles. The gama also runs sluggish if you set the number of cycles too high...

Best of luck!

What's dodgy software? Dosbox runs slowly due to the fact it is fully emulating a 486-era PC - DOS, CPU, RAM, Video, Sound, Mouse and CD-ROM. When you take into account all that is running on top of your existing Windows system you cannot expect full speed. That will take time. Time for the developers to tweak the code for speed, and time for faster PC hardware to be available for you to run it on.

Another thing to remember is that Dosbox was always a platform-independent project for use on many different systems, not just Windows. Because of this, it will be a while before the official branch is optimized for your OS. Unless, a CVS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concurrent_Versions_System) exists that is Windows with AMD/Intel specific.

The only sure-fire way to play the Tex games (all 5) flawlessly is to use a PC with older harware and software from the Windows 98 era that is good for DOS and Win95 games. As long as you have the space, it's relatively cheap to come by.
