Similar Games to Tex....
Did anyone ever hear of Terror T.R.A.X.?? I remember buying it for a few coins at the supermarket.
Cute but short vampire hunting game. It was a true inter-active movie in that it showed you a video scene, upon which you had to made a choice. Then the movie continued based on what you chose to do. You either died at one point and had to start over from the beginning, or you eventually made it to the end. I think there was only one way to "win."
Pretty interesting, but over within the hour. I've never really heard of this obscure game again until I just saw it on the interactive movie website linked in this thread.

It's not an adventure game like Tex Murphy, but consider Bad Mojo! It's got FMV, and I'm guessing most Tex fans are FMV fans as well. The game is utterly original and unique, in that you are transformed into a cockroach that you have to steer around a disgusting world to solve puzzles. High recommendation, for sure.
That said, I got my fingers on Black Dahlia, it's great!! Good atmosphere, EXCELLENT acting, puzzles are nice and hard and graphics are awesome. Thanks for the suggestion, someone!

Do try the Black Dahlia game - does anyone know how to get it up and going on XP-Pro? I loved the game for itself alone but also because the first part of it is a true story that took place in the early\mid thirties in Cleveland, Ohio where I lived. A serial killer was on the loose beheading people as I remember and strewing their bodies along a small creek called Kingsbury Run so the killer became known as the Kigsbury Run murderer. Never did catch him. Elliot Ness was brought in to do the job and much to his chagrin never was able to resolve the case.
Oops, I missed this message.Jerry Dan wrote:BTW, good to see you, Sai - it's been awhile, hasn't it?
Thanks!
nondaj - Been a long time since I played Black Dahlia. Don't remember having too much trouble getting it to run though last time I played but not sure how long ago that was. What kind of problems are you having? Have you given DOSBox a shot? There should be instructions on how to use DOSBox on the Tech Support section (although they'll be related to Tex Murphy, similar instructions should apply)

I'm not sure if the media called the murderer by any other names, but I think it's the Cleveland Torso Murders and the (probably unrelated) Black Dahlia Murder that the game draws ideas from. These gruesome murders had their victims slashes in half by the torso and the killer was never caught. A connection between the two was never proven.nondaj wrote:Do try the Black Dahlia game - does anyone know how to get it up and going on XP-Pro? As for getting the game to work on XP, I remember that the game DID NOT work when I enabled Windows Compatibility mode. Furthermore, you will be glad to know that you can configure the mouse rotation speed in the ini files. Open it up in a text editor and change some values. The game is nigh unplayable if you don't.
EDIT: Oops, misspelled "torso." Twice!
I remember Bad Mojo. I recall chuckling at the inventive part of tossing a load of old razorblades down into a hole in the wall to kill a particularly nasty rat that blocked your way. Aaaand that's my limit of recollection on that particular game.
Except that I could never finish it due to a bug. (No pun intended. No, really.)

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!
And if you enjoy Hotel Dusk on the DS, the Pheonix Wright games are worth a play.
I'm also enjoying the new epsodic Sam & Max. Up to episode 4 atm and am laughing and having a great time.
Also, i really need to get a hold of Black Dahlia

I gots a webcomic! http://yetanothercomic.com
Oh, Sam & Max was one of the few new games that had me smiling almost continuously while playing. The dialogue is absolutely unparalleled compared to recent releases. Excellent writing and characterization! Bit repetitive on the setting due to its episodic format, but it picks up after the third episode!
By the way nondaj since you're interested in the mystery I guess you saw the recent film that came out? Don't know how good or close to the story it was though. Looks like there's another film coming out this year too (thats getting mixed up by reviewers for the other one) but is limited release. Of course there are other versions/films of the story too out there. Pop on IMDB.com and search for "Black Dahlia", saw some people mention older/better films on the forums for the newer ones.

Furthermore, you can visit this site for a more historic break-down of the Black Dahlia Murder. The site is run by a crime reporter as far as I remember and tries to find more clues about who did it. Since this is a true-to-history site, it contains graphic photos of the murdered body (although in low-quality black-and-white), so it may not be something you want to see.
Wheee lots of good feedback re Black Dalia and other games to look for. Yes, now I do recall the term Cleveland Torso Murders. Also when the Black Dahlia happened in L.A. there was some speculation that the same person operating in Cleveland had just moved to L. A. Seems a bit of a stretch to me since I don't think there were further murders in L.A. similar to the Black Dahlia. Will have to go to the site and see what they have there - not squeamish but will be prepared.
