Future of Tex (possibilities)

AC is currently working on something he thinks will pave the way for a New Tex Adventure... So right now all we can do is support his current project, which from what he has told us so far, sounds like it is going to be pretty good... He said the title is going to be Three Card To Midnight... So hopefully all will work out for AC...

Actually AC is finishing up something he hopes will get him the money to buy or lease the rights to Tex Murphy. I've got a really strong understanding of what TCM is, and I have a stronger understanding of what it would take to get a Tex game going. Right now is a perfect time for Tex to be brought back and IS the perfect time for a well made pitch.

I just got back from E3 and I talked with the people who owned the rights. Did you?
No need to be rude...
All of us here know what it will take to get a Tex Murphy game off the ground... And just about all here are willing to help in whatever way they can... AC himself comes and posts on this message board... Along with a few of our members being personal friends of Aaron and Chris...

I've exchanged a few emails with people at Take-2 Games, I'm well aware of the Copyrights ownership...
Good Day...

First I want to thank all who replied with all your information. You guys are great, and I love all who make an opinion. Now, about James Bond: I have to disagree with the popularity comment; James is More Popular today than he was when Sean was Bond. The numbers show that. I think that Craig will be even more popular. Sean is still the best Bond for he was the tough one, where as Moore was strictly comedy. Bronson brought back the crowd to the “Bond Adventures”. He was suave.

I do like the idea of Chris continuing with the Murphy character on computer though. Never even thought of that idea till you guys brought it up. Would work out great I think. But, why won’t they go for it? Playstations! Even though I hate them games have to be written to them for this is the popular gaming systems of today. Less and Less do we see PC Games only? They have to be written for both. This is where the money and profits are.

A game like Tex would be very popular now for it not just another “Bang, Bang, Shoot um up your Dead Game.” You have too many avenues to go down, and if you go the wrong way you are on your own.

My favorite line you guys wrote: “…Though Tex’s future is painfully shrouded from even his creators, there sooo much possibility in it. Give us the entire whole 9 yards…Who Do I have to kill?” I am with you, point me in the right direction and we will eliminate everybody till it gets back to Chris! I didn’t realize that 2K owns the rights for I thought it was Micro-boys. 2K does do role playing games so; there is always a good chance to see Murphy come back. I have to agree that it will take the right pitch. I really believe if Sam and Max can come back and make money, then I know that Tex will be back in a great way. I just hope the new project Chris is about done, will not be competitions for the future over his own creation.

Again the reason Sean got to do another James in his old age (Never, say Never again) which was Thunderball was that the 007 team did not own the rights to it. Still don’t. But that movie could be done again if someone had the right amount of money. I just want to continue on with a new adventure with new stars, same girl friend he will never get, and a good class of Bourbon!
Tex -"Give him a Lucky Strike, a glass of Bourbon (neat), and a leggy dame and Tex is in his element."
Did you remember the inflation? More people watch movies now then back when Connery was Bond :D

Pirates, vampires, zombies, ninjas, ghouls, aliens, goblins, monsters, robots, sorcerers, undead, werewolves, demons, mutated dinosaur-cyborgs and those pesky phone salesmen! The shotgun is a one-size-fits-all solution!

Excellent point with inflation numbers considered no Bond film has been as sucessful as the Connery films. I believe the first 4 were the top grossing movies of their years too. Bond used to be the IT movie to see back then. Now we have tons of summer popcorn flicks.

There are many different ways that Tex could return but I think in all cases Chris Jones should be capable of playing the role or at least voicing it.

As mentioned by KJ though the future of the series likely lies in consoles. There is nothing like a Tex Murphy game on any console. In fact I think the controllers for the consoles could easily be used to make a great interface.

AC hasn't stated whether or not he is going to change his mind, but he stated not too long ago that Tex would Not be on Consoles... He wrote it strictly for PC and PC is where he said he wanted to keep it...
I agree as much as the next person, Tex would end up Great on a Console, just like Wing Commander III and IV did... The decision lies with Aaron and Chris when that day comes though...

As for Bond, Connery was by far the best... If you stop people on the Street and tell them to say the first actor that comes to mind and you say James Bond, most will say Connery... Bronson reintroduced Bond to the newer generations, but Connery still holds the title...

No it doesn't. The decision lies with the company that has the rights. I hate to break this to you... but we may see a Tex Murphy game that has no involvement from AC or CJ.

From a business stand point that is a tough pitch: Adventure Game on a PC. Good luck with that. If it is true that they haven't been pitching multiple platforms it is no wonder they can't get financed.

It also goes against their statement that they'd do just about anything to get the stories back out there.

That's some pretty strong words there lotus. If there IS a Tex Murphy game without the blessings of CJ and AC, I can assure you, they better spend mucho $$$$ to cater to an entirely brand new audience, not Tex fans and surely not adventure gamers. Because, and I'm certainly not alone in this, I will not support it and actively campaign for others to not support it as well. Tex Murphy is nothing without Aaron and Chris. It may be an intellectual property and a brand, but it won't have the heart and soul and the fanbase behind it. Take 2 knows that. They would be foolish not to team with the creators. Or lease, license, whatever, the rights back to them.

Just my .02 and worth exactly what you paid for it.

While it might hurt your feelings it's a real possibility. The target audience would obviously be a brand new market. In fact there IS a market for a new Tex Murphy game. You have to remember this is a larger industry than the film industry. Games bring in a lot of money when done right. If AC and CJ have the wrong plan, then they won't get a green light or even permission to lease the rights. Take 2 will evaluate the property's worth and chances are they will come to the same conclusion I have: Tex is ready to make money. I know a couple of their people already think that.

Please make up your mind... Either you have a Strong Understanding of what Aaron has yet to release or you don't know anything about their new game??? Which one is it???

lotus_j wrote:If they weren't there, then they lost a good chance of rubbing elbows.
Both Aaron Connors and Chris Jones are extremely well known in the Gaming Industry... Neither of them need to make sure they "Rub Elbows"...

I Agree...

However when you're in the position to hear the VP of Sony bitch about the gaming industry constantly you pick up a few things. Recently I've become involved in the industry as a writer. So that experience is first hand. However I have many friends in the industry all at different companies and I've learned a lot from them.
And I've done work for the Owner of BigHugeGames,,,
Is everyone done with the Name Dropping??? Because I've met far better people, I could go on... I just happened to have a meeting with him over the past weekend...

lotus_j wrote:Adventure Games are still a market. It's scary when you think that a fan-made remake of King's Quest II was downloaded over 1M times. You'd think that would raise the eye brows of an executive somewhere.
Only a million downloads??? Sadly that wouldn't turn the Secretary's head much less an Executive's... People remake and spin off of games all the time... If it had bothered anyone, then there would have most likely been a lawsuit involved... But a Million compared to the MillionS that the King's Quest collection has sold over the last 15 to 20 years... That Fan-Made Million isn't but a drop in a bucket...

No one is arguing that Adventure Games are still in the market... Adventure games are made all the time... If Von Glower {another member of this board} was around he would turn you green by the time he was done going on about Adventure games... He has been pretty busy, I also hope he doesn't live near where they got Flooded over there... I saw clips on the News and they got some hellish storms over the last week or so...

Now on a more personal note Lotus... You're new here... You're excited, you're a Tex Murphy Fan and you've found a community where Tex still lives and breathes... Very understandable... I did the same thing when I first joined... I spouted several ideas about how Tex could Live Again... I pressed the Copyright Issue and pissed people off... I kept pressing that Tex could come back... I even made comments similar to yours about the Creators not continuing the series... I was very mistaken...
Tex Will Be Finished... Of that I have no doubt... Aaron has promised that... If it doesn't get finished in a computer game then it will be finished in the Awesome Radio Theater that they did a few years ago...
In order for company to make Tex Murphy they will need the Writer that made the originals, otherwise the story won't match up and as Jen stated they will lose the original fanbase and need to spend massive money on Advertising for a new audience...
And the only way they will get AC to be involved is if they agreed to a lot of his terms and conditions involving the construction of the game, which undoubtedly include Chris Jones playing the Part of Tex Murphy... Along with many of the other original cast members, I'm guessing...
The Paved Straight Road, Won't Always Get You Farther Than The Winding Dirt Road...
