I don't know, if you read the entire post in which AC talks about the Budget, he sounded pretty serious as if it were already a solid number, not just an estimate...
Whether fans would be happy with a smaller project isn't really the issue here, I don't think AC would be happy ending the Tex Murphy Series in a Smaller Project... I just don't think he is that type of person... He takes pride in his work and when the time comes to finalize Tex Murphy, I think he will want to do the biggest and boldest game he can... And as Tex Murphy himself, I don't think Chris would want much less either...

If anyone knows how to manage funds for a Tex Murphy game, it must be Chris. It's his thing.

I will be able to offer...nothing. I work a part time job that pays for school. My bank account dreams of being over three grand.

I'm still hoping I hit the poweball. And when that day comes, I will be supplying all the funds needed to get that damn series completed. And all of your grandkids will tell stories to their grandkids about how Adninsreaction stepped up and saved the Tex Murphy franchise......not likely to happen, but damnit a boy can dream can't he?

That's my dream too

Absolutely. I really see your point and I don't doubt AC knowing what that project cost and only they would know. But them being the best to know means it doesn't hurt to re-ignite discussions, in the instance a fundraising thing came to light, and get the original creators on board. I still think not every project is going to have the exact same figure, even if its a couple of thousand more or less. I don't mean to be difficult as I'm just saying this in
the event of a fundraising event though as the topic describes (if this topic hadnt been raised I wouldnt even raise the point really as figures wouldnt matter). If there were no fan community fundraiser, there is no need to get the original creators on board and no need to discuss any figures with them again as really its all up to them.
If there was a fundraiser though, its always good for official backing and an official announcement on what the creators would realistically need, whether it'd be just money for startup costs (and what those 'starting costs' would be) to simply show there is an actual market for the game willing to put money forward (and therefore a market of people willing to actually buy the game). Or whether there'd need to be more or less etc.
And naturally everyone wants the biggest project there can be and AC is no different. But there was discussions on smaller projects because it is an option at the end of the day, like the Radio Theater. And AC did ask in live chats and on the forum with us if we would still appreciate a smaller project like that. I said yes I would still love it because the Tex Murphy series always has good writing as its solid base and all there is needed for that is AC who obviously produces great literary work. Sure I still want a big game, but I don't mind something else too. Many enjoyed the radio theater which was of high quality so it wouldn't really be 'defeatist' or anything, just another way of getting a very high quality story out there, similar to if it was published in book form first (and the other books in the tex Murphy series are already of very high quality). If anyone would want only a bigger game they can always just not read the book/view the smaller project though. I know a few here are passionately against anything less than a full-blown PC or console game which is understandable too.
At the end of the day the idea is out there. Whether its necessary at this point, maybe not. Things are still in motion and we've heard from AC that there are still options out there for funding a big game.
Either way whether its just as support or full-blown backing. If there was any effort from the fans, there would need to be official word. Or it will fall to the wayside.

I think William Burroughs once described heroin as the ultimate product because people would crawl through the sewers and beg to buy it.
So even the act of trying to raise money announces to the world that Tex is as sweet as heroin, and everyone's just gotta try it

The unofficial, official word.
AC wrote:You and the other faithful are amazing. The beau geste is wonderful, but I think Chris and I can make it happen on our own dime. IN FACT...

The only unfortunate thing about this is the fact that Chris isn't getting any younger and neither are any of the others that played in the Tex Series... It may not be the same to have someone else playing some of the parts of the others we have come to love...

Why would anyone else have to play them?
CGI.

If Harrison Ford plays Indiana Jones at his age then Chris still has MANY years to go before he reaches that point.

Alright, alright....I'll step in and play Tex in the new game....I'll do it, ya twisted my arm...but, I'll only do it on 2 conditions. 1 - Someone has to set me up with another copy of martian Memorandum in the original box, I'm having trouble finding another one....and 2 - Bafitis has to finally identify who's ass is in his avitar...because it is most definitely a sweet one.

I can understand that, but with Indiana Jones, they took the Story into the future to make Indy that old... It wasn't like they were still in the 30s or 40s, they jumped to 1957, killing off the older characters {Dad, Marcus, etc} and planting Indy in his senior years...
AC has already continued the Story from Overseer, thus the characters shouldn't have aged much since the last game... But if they wait too long before they continue the Series then AC will have to workout another Script to make the characters older... Once they are capable of making a New Game, the story should pick up from the Radio Episodes, unless they do a rewrite and change a lot of things around...
Since neither AC or CJ have commented on the time lapse between games, I can only assume that they plan to pick up where they have left off...
I myself would love to have the originals in the game and if that means capping off the old story and coming up with something completely new and jumping into the future like they did with Jones, then I'm all for it...
Either way, time is the enemy and the future is unpredictable... And like many of us, AC and CJ are but Tools of "The Man"... And I Say, Damn The Man...
