Star Trek review thread.
Amen, Frank.
BTW, my daughter's first husband once complained about some differences when Star Trek Generations came out and I thought: What's the big deal? So what if the movie seems to contradict other books or episodes from the TV series. The main thing is this: Was the movie entertaining and did you enjoy it?
Personally, I can live with variations as long as the movie is good and this one was great! Still, it is fun to discuss the possibilities, so lead on!

"If you look to me for illumination, you better have a flashlight!"
I actually accidentally posted this in the Last movie you saw board too.
Changed this post a bit though since some of what I wrote in the other board was answered after I read this one.
Well, I haven't been to the boards for a couple of weeks cause I have been really busy with our new house.
Anyway, here goes my review.
Spectacular!!! Best Star Trek so far. Next is Wrath of Khan and First Contact.
This movie was just plain fun. Great special effects and feel. I enjoyed how Captain Pike was in it even though he was in only one Star Trek Episode, the first one ever. (as far as I know)
The way they worked Nemoy in was great. That little prequel comic was awesome too having Picard, LaForge, and Data helping Spock get to the supernova. (this next sentence relates to something said in the last move board) I don't think Shatner is pissed about not being in the film. I saw an interview with him and he didn't seem pissed at all as much as he was dissapointed. He seemed to understand though, considering Kirk's character was dead already from Generations. Spock was cleverly worked into it because last we saw of him was in ST:TNG where Picard ran into him, now amabassador to Romulas, as he was trying to help resolve the differences between Romulas and Vulcan.
Kind of went on a tangent there.. anyway.
It was just a great movie, and I am sure, Jim, since you are a huge fan, enjoyed all the Easter Eggs that paid homage to the original films and series. They were everywhere!!!!
I liked Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, although I felt he didn't really act like Shatner.... this could be a good thing though. Although he still did imitate his maneurisms at the very end of the film when they came back to the Enterprise. He said something to Bones, I think, and pointed at him... I can't quite remember what it was. Help me out with this one Jim. Perfect reflection of Shatner in that one gesture... I guess it was their way of honouring him.
Great Film!
Terminator Opens in a week..... REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT ONE!!!
actually am watching the first 3 again. I forgot how cheesy the soundtrack was for the first one.
K, I'm done now.

Matt
This would be the fifth Star Trek film I've seen (I've watched zero Star Trek episodes). I'd call it the second best of the five, and the ranking would be:
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
Star Trek (J.J. Abrams version)
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek: The Movie
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
I've just started watching Star Trek 5, and that one so far looks like a candidate to push Star Trek 2 up in the listing, as it sucks more ass than a diet cream soda drinker. Still interesting that I'd rather see two hours of Captain's logs and a satellite then Kirk Versus Khan. *shrugs*
As for the new guys representation of old characters, well, Kirk doesn't have to be the same as old Kirk because they're not the same. Same goes with all of them, really.
And as for what Nero did for 25 years? Sit around and wait for Spock. I got the impression that he didn't know when Spock would arrive, just that Spock would arrive there. Based on what I could tell about the black hole is that it is created and than dies out. So, if the Romulan ship gets pulled into the black hole one moment, a moment later the strength of the hole would be weaker as the strength of the *cough* red matter *cough* crumbles away. In theory.
Though technically all black hole science is theory, and then you toss in material that doesn't exist in a weapon that eats up supernovas and, well...you're left with one thing to do. Sit back and enjoy the movie.
