Countdown to "where's my code I want it now waaaa"

It is one mega big deal... :D

The DRM issue did indeed have some people upset, so here's a direct link to BFG's facebook post saying that the Steam version is DRM-free as promised:

So post this URL when/where you see people complain about DRM and Tesla. End of argument.

I think it is better to post the bit from GOG staff saying (assuming its true?)
GOG keys have been sent out to Atlus/Big Finish and we hope that all the backers will be seeing them ASAP. Please keep in mind that there is a huge difference in time zones and that's why it looks like the GOG keys were delayed :)

Staff have said its DRM Free on Steam in responce to people but a number of people would rather get the game on GOG regardless as seen in the comments for the latest Kickstarter announcement and on the Big Finish forums. Some may deem the points about Steam as invalid but all that aside I do think it fair if people receive GOG codes than not personally since it was in the terms of the Kickstarter (along with a downloadable version from BFG's own site).

I only backed the minimum amount on the Moebius Kickstarter and upon launch got the option to choose between Steam or GOG (along with a downloadable version on the publisher's own site). Though I have over 200 games on Steam and am an Administrator on the Tex Murphy Steam group I would still pick GOG personally :)

Also if I get a GOG key I'll have the entire Tex Murphy series on there! :) So I'd love one too, but I'm in no rush for it, so as people have said on the Big Finish forums, I'm just gonna wait and see how GOG handles it.

According to the BFG forums, the free keys are for Steam and not GOG.com.

As I predicted, some people are getting quite pissy about it. "Waaaaaa! I can't accept that the Steam version is DRM free even though I've been repeatedly told that it is! Waaaaa! "

Still doesn't explain the message from GOG staff that GOG keys were sent to ATLUS / BFG to be given out to backers. So I'm just gonna assume there's some crossed wires somewhere perhaps and wait until the dust settles.

Also the version that would be downloadable on BFG's site mentioned during the Kickstarter has just been retracted. People on the BFG forum are trying to help BFG by mentioning some servers like Humble Bundle that they could use which other Kickstarters have utilised.

To be honest the situation is a little confusing so I don't blame people for wondering :)

I finally got mine at 4:43am this morning. Went to bed at 12:00, got up at 05:00am for work and Uni. So glad I didn't stay up and wait ;) I'm give this little casual game a run tonight.

If they give out both, there's no way to stop people from having 2 copies of the game and selling them or giving them away. Which isn't what we want.
The problem with GOG is that because of the time zones. The GOG version isn't even downloadable until a few hours after Steam's is.

So some people on the BFG forum can't accept that the Steam download is DRM-free. They're being very pissy about it.

I think 97% of people don't give a crap, though. They'll get their key email and say "oh, cool" and just use the code without a second thought.

Like I say though, I bid the minimum amount on the Jane Jensen Kickstarter to get a copy of the game and through Kickstarter they sent out a backer rewards survey, "Which do you want? Steam or GOG?". I picked GOG, got it on GOG, no Steam :)

To be honest, I think more people are concerned that it will never be downloadable on GOG for backers. After all people on the GOG forum didn't mind and were supportive of the fact that the release date was pushed back to May 7th. :D

I wouldn't take too much notice of them because despite being constantly assured that the Steam version is not a DRM product, they insiste it is due to the mere inconvenience of having to download Steam. If they cannot see past the positives of having a Steam code on launch day vs waiting a few days to download the game days later on GOG, then let them wait either for GOG or their boxed copy.

I've been really patient with them on the forums in helping to explain but it constantly falls on deaf ears. My efforts to assist here have now ceased as I will very soon have a new Tex Murphy game to play. I waited 16 years to play this game, not to bicker.
This quote from a user on the BFG forum takes the cake: "I feel betrayed by this action and will think twice before I ever support Big Finish again."
I personally do think there is a misunderstanding somewhere between ATLUS/BFG and GOG regarding the codes. It's for them to handle so I would also just sit back and wait. I don't think getting involved in the Steam debate is worth it, everyone has their preferences, it's like arguing which is a better console, nobody wins :D
#: It's probably stupid, but GOG send the key to BFG right ? so they got all the backers key even the non-beta one. I'm wondering if there is a possibility to ask them directly the code.

GOG Staff: Please read this post:

Thanks :)

#: To be fair, it has been 9 hours since that post. Most of us are wondering if there was any updates to that situation since. Just to be safe, I'll hold on to using my Steam activation key until this situation is clarified.

GOG Staff: Well, I don't know as we haven't heard anything after we sent the keys so it's out of our hands now. Sorry :(

good on them for getting the steam codes out so early for us. I'm glad to see they were aware that some people wouldn't like steam. Just a shame they had problems with GOG but eh at least we've got the game now.

Its gonna take me ages to download though as I have a limiter on steam ensuring that none of this game goes towards quota- which is wonderful.
Ok, I retract my earlier statement. Unless this person is kidding, THIS post takes the cake:

"It is still BFG's responsibility to deal with the possibility of such a delay, by getting them a week earlier. Steam forces you to go online and become exposed to other Steam games, it is an evil that needs to be held at bay with constant vigilance."
I think that's meant as a parody. Although Poe's law does apply. That said I will probably just buy it again on gog - I'm really happy for them to have more money and I honestly can't be arsed to fiddle with steam. None of this detracts from the the celebration that is the relase of the game! I've not been so excited about a video game for years.
There's seriously more people debating STEAM vs GOG more than there are people discussing the prosect of playing a Tex Murphy game following 16 years of waiting.
