To everybody here

Hi, everybody.
I am new as well, but already reading for a long time - like many others here.
Well... grab a fedora and a pack of Llama lights and sit a spell. We'll pass around a bottle of Jack, and comiserate about our ex'es. :D
Or, future ex'es, just in case. lol

Welcome and please stay awhile while we try to resurrect the Tex games.

And a pair of sneakers.

That's a subject that doesn't get as much discussion as it deserves. What do you all think of Tex wearing sneakers? Why be retro in everything but shoes? I cringe everytime I lay my eyes on those hideous white beacons of distaste.

I can think of only one argument for Tex to wear them. It kinda fits with Tex being both something of a parody of - and homage to - the fictional PIs of the mid 20th century.

What do you all say?
Thanks, Jen, but I am a non-smoker (like CJ  ). I wouldn't mind, if you pass me the bourbon, though.

Thank god, no married ex'es so far. Things are already complicated enough as they are. :D

Good question, HeinzHarald! I always notice that, too. I always took it as a combination:
1) His shoes are rubber-soled shoes used by early detectives that gave them the name "gumshoes". They are useful for being quiet when sneaking around and so are now called "sneakers".
2) Tex's shoes being white is due to his "blatant tackiness", as Chelsee remarked.

Now that's an interesting argument I didn't expect. I doubt if anyone took the reasoning that far, but that argument goes a long way towards my acceptance of Tex's choice in footwear.
Well, since the term "gumshoe" has long been a very common term for a detective (at least Stateside), I'd actually be a bit surprised if that's not the source of the sneakers. But maybe I'm analyzing it a little more than they did! :)

That's what I'm thinking.

But you might be right. We'll have to remember to ask AC or CJ next time there's an interview held.

Edit: Anyone's who's got Bogart for hero wouldn't be caught dead wearing a pair of sneakers if you ask me. :D
If I remember correctly, in a previous interview, the question of Tex's footwear in the games was brought up. I believe that for FMV sequences, the gang determined that white/brighter shoes showed up better than a darker type.

The term gumshoe did originate from the use of a gummy type substance on shoes. Not necessarily for being 'sneaky' and quiet, but also for comfort during a detective's walking of the beat.
Well I don't smoke, drink JD, or own a fedora, but the invitation still stands.

About the sneakers....I think CJ actually really just likes to wear those shoes. I think I read/saw a picture a few years back when they both still were at Microslave. He was wearing them then.

But don't quote me...I'm not on crack, but sometimes my brain thinks so.

Even if you usually just stop in to read here, please, post in this thread and just say 'hi.' (or whatever you feel like) and let's get a little unofficial headcount for the unofficial site. This goes for you regulars too.

I suppose this will count as my post, so... the ball is rolling.

Anything new I should know about? :)

Well, I wear sneakers 90% of the time. I mean, if I'm on a sales call I'll wear a nice pair of slacks, a dress shirt (sometimes with a tie), and my sneakers. This is very common in the Detroit area and is very acceptable.

Good to see earljw and sai posting again. Missed you guys.
