The last film you´ve seen and your thoughts about it
You rat! I was gonna see it gold class, but it was all booked out... oh well, going to see it in V-Max instead, should be awesome!Joel wrote:I'll be seeing Star Trek this Thursday in Gold Class (right after installing Three Cards Till Midnight)
As for Fast and Furious, I haven't seen it, but come on...wasn't the first one an attrocity in itself?

Wolverine was intense... I won't say too much about it since it just came out over the weekend...
Very good story if you ask me, I liked this movie very much, can't wait to buy it...
I plan on seeing Star Trek this coming weekend as well... I'm trying to avoid thinking of the original cast and crew... I realize it is suppose to be set just before the originals, but when I first heard about it I was kind of pissed that they were going to mess around with the classics which have made Star Trek into what it is... But as the longer trailers got released I've changed my view a little...
I do know that Shatner is mad as hell that he wasn't asked to even make a screen appearance like Nimoy was... I find it kind of funny myself...

Well, the new Star Trek is kind of a reboot and at the same time establishes an alternate timeline. From what I can tell, the villain (Played by Eric Bana) travels back in time to attempt an assassination on Kirk which obviously goes against what was originally meant to happen. Thus, a new timeline is created. So it's half reboot, half alternate timeline. I think this is a good way of setting the story back up so if it is picked up as a tv series or further films are made, it gives them a few options as to where they can take it.
Frank, you're not too far off actually! Throw in some extra-comfortable reclining seats, larger screen, improved sound, a "sevice" button on the table beside you and some over priced beer and you pretty much have Gold Class
(Yes, the hostess is cute but also very taken...speaking from experience).
POST NUMBER 400!!!

Congrats on the 400...
I see what you're saying, but at the same time they could have done a story like this with Voyager who was always messing with time or with the crew from the show Enterprise or DS9, they didn't need to try and capitalize on the crew who started it all...
While the movie does look good, I'll give it that... I also think that there are going to be a lot of old time hard core Star Trek fans that will be bashing this film come this time next week...
Like I said before though, I'm looking at the movie from a different view than I did a couple months ago when it was announced... I plan on seeing it in IMax and giving it every chance a Star Trek Film deserves...
I've also become somewhat of a fan of Sylar's, it will be interesting to see him play Spock... He has a close enough resemblance for it too...

It's only a buck more here to see IMax over regular theater, so I see just about anything in IMax when it's available... I figure for one dollar extra and I get the bigger screen, the sound, and everything, why not...
Monsters vs Aliens was 2 dollars extra though because it was in 3D...

I'm well and truly over the hardcore fans. I'm convinced that if Star Trek ends up being this year's Dark Knight (both comercially and critically) they'd still bash it. That's the only reason why i'm a little hesitant about Leonard Nemoy making an appearance. It's always good to see him, but it just gives the fans that extra window of opportunity to compare this to all of the other Star Trek that has led to this film. It's a new interpretation with a very polite nod to the past. I kind of consider this to be a new phase in the Star Trek cannon.Bafitis wrote:While the movie does look good, I'll give it that... I understand if some fans don't like it...but when they walk into the theatre prior to seeing the movie with the intention of hating it because it doesn't cite enough of the novels and episodes...I tend to cringe. To this day, Star Trek has this stigma about it because of this geek culture which really bothers me because in my opinion Star Trek deserves the commercial acclaim of Star Wars. Maybe this will alienate that particular crowd and actually bring the franchise into the light it deserves.
I agree which is why I've changed my views before seeing it...
I did that with the Batman Begins and Dark Knight... Expecting it to be like Keaton or Clooney... While I accept it for a very good Action film, I still can't really look at it like Batman... I understand that the original comics were dark like they've made these 2 films, but that's not what I'm accustom to with Batman, to me Batman was suppose to be action with comedy thrown in and people like Arnold and Devito and Nicholson did just that...
I never got into Comics so therefore Batman was never a Dark Character to me... I remember watching Adam West when I was a kid, very colorful and very comical... So to me that is what Batman was...
Since Star Trek has had so many different paths it should be a lot easier view it outside of the Old Crew view...
Yes with Nimoy coming in people will be making massive comparisons between the two... That part alone will be scared heavily, especially by Spock Fans...

I just got back from a midnight showing of Star Trek on an IMAX dome screen.
Pretty spectacular. It's easily better than all the other Star Trek movies put together, but that's not saying much because I never really liked the Star Trek movies much. However, this one is really cool.
Throughout the whole movie, I couldn't help notice how Star Wars-like it is. There are many scenes that are totally unlike Star Trek but very much like Star Wars. I kept wanting to call young James, Luke.
Very cool movie. Maybe as cool as IronMan.

Your review is spot on, Doc. In fact, I am a HUGE Star Trek fan and I feel it is the best yet. Incredible special FX, great story line, super acting, intense moments galore and the typical Star Trek humor you'd expect. Highly recommend it. My nephew and I saw it today and I cannot wait to take my wife to see it. Five stars*****

Well, I haven't been to the boards for a couple of weeks cause I have been really busy with our new house. I expected to see more posts about Star Trek. I'm just really suprised no one has said much about it.
Baf, I am really curious about your opinion of it. Let us know what you thought.
Anyway, here goes my review.
Spectacular!!!
This movie was just plain fun. Great special effects and feel. I enjoyed how Captain Pike was in it even though he was in only one Star Trek Episode, the first one ever. (as far as I know)
The way they worked Nemoy in was great. That little prequel comic was awesome too having Picard, LaForge, and Data helping Spock get to the supernova. I don't think Shatner is pissed about not being in the film. I saw an interview with him and he didn't seem pissed at all as much as he was dissapointed. He seemed to understand though, considering Kirk's character was dead already from Generations. Spock was cleverly worked into it because last we saw of him was in ST:TNG where Picard ran into him, now amabassador to Romulas, as he was trying to help resolve the differences between Romulas and Vulcan.
Kind of went on a tangent there.. anyway.
It was just a great movie, and I am sure, Jim, since you are a huge fan, enjoyed all the Easter Eggs that paid homage to the original films and series. They were everywhere!!!!
I liked Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, although I felt he didn't really act like Shatner.... this could be a good thing though. Although he still did imitate his maneurisms at the very end of the film when they came back to the Enterprise. He said something to Bones, I think, and pointed at him... I can't quite remember what it was. Help me out with this one Jim. Perfect reflection of Shatner in that one gesture... I guess it was their way of honouring him.
Great Film!
Terminator Opens in a week..... REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT ONE!!!
actually am watching the first 3 again. I forgot how cheesy the soundtrack was for the first one.
K, I'm done now.
